Role Overview

 

The Security Specialist for the Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites (ISMHS) plays a crucial role in maintaining the safety and security of the museum, staff, and guests. This position is responsible for safeguarding museum property, including valuable artifacts and exhibits, ensuring a pleasant experience for all visitors. Key tasks include patrolling the museum’s 270,000 sq. ft. facility and immediate perimeter, monitoring security systems, and enforcing security protocols. The role also involves liaising with museum management, staff, and law enforcement in emergency situations.

 

Key Projects & Programs:

 

   •       Patrol & Surveillance: Regular patrols of both buildings and surrounding areas, responding to incidents, and managing access to restricted zones.

   •       Visitor and Staff Safety: Ensuring adherence to security protocols while providing information and assistance to visitors and staff.

   •       Emergency Response: Managing security communications systems and coordinating with law enforcement and emergency services during critical incidents.

Position-Specific Details:

This part-time role is second shift, typically outside of regular business hours. Due to the nature of museum operations, candidates must be available to work weekends, holidays, and evening hours. The role may also require occasional overtime during special events or high-traffic periods. Flexibility is key, as schedules will vary depending on museum needs.

Salary Statement

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $16.73/hr but may be commensurate with education or work experience.
