About the Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites:

The Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites (ISMHS) is a museum system with 12 locations across the state, including the Indiana State Museum in downtown Indianapolis and 11 historic sites across the state. The ISMHS is a forward-thinking, unparalleled resource for learning about and appreciating Indiana and its role in the world. We discover, collect, preserve, interpret, and present artifacts and exhibits that showcase the stories of Indiana's natural and cultural history, art, and science.

 

Role Overview:

The Security Specialist (Part-time) will provide efficient, courteous and friendly services to guests/visitors to promote a pleasant and secure atmosphere. The Incumbent will be required to work weekends, holidays and a flexible schedule to accommodate increased guests/visitors and public utilization.

 

The schedule is set for 50 hours biweekly for the following days and times:
Sunday 12am to 6am
Monday 12am to 7am
Friday 12am to 6am 
Saturday 12 to 6am


Salary Statement

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $13.21 per hour but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

 

A Day in the Life:

·Patrols the Indiana State Museum, which encompasses two buildings (270,000 sq. ft.) connected by a 200-foot interior bridge as well as the immediate perimiter of the facility to protect the property and occupants against fire, vandalism, security violations and other disturbances.

·Reports through verbal and written means, unusual circumstances, public safety hazards or any other incidents to the Manager of Security, Security Coordinator or appropiate law enforcement agencies.

·Monitors access to restricted and semi-restricted areas of the museum; ensures staff, visitors, volunteers, contractors and guests have appropiate credentials.

·Ensures adherence of museum security policies by guests, visitors, volunteers, contractors and staff. Communicates infractions of museum security policies when appropiate.

·Operates, monitors and responds accordingly using various security communication systems (base radio, two-way radio, emergency phones), fire and security alarm systems (intrusion, space, point protection, smoke, heat and pull station alarm) and closed caption television surviellance system, etc.

·Assist in traffic control duties near the museums entrances/exits and loading docks as assigned.

·Ability to work all shifts, weekends, holidays, indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.

·Ability to work independent of direct supervision. ·

Ability to handle emergencies including accidents, injuries and possibly deaths.

·Ability to effectively and professionally communicate on telephone and two-way radio.

·Ability to maintain a professional person

What You'll Need for Success:

Must be at leaast 18 years of age and have an High School Diploma or equivalent.

·Basic knowledge and understanding of law enforcement, secuirty and fire inspection procedures.

·Ability to operate sophisticated surviellance systems. ·Ability to read with comprehension, follow written and verbal orders, write reports and maintain logs.

·Ability to communicate effectively to visitors/guests, staff members and have working knowledge of visitor experience service standards.

·Incumbent must be able to effectively provide information to visitors, communicate by telephone and radio, and write legibly.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
