Role Overview

As Exhibit Scenic Fabricator, you will create and contribute to the production and repair of exhibitory/scenic elements and auxiliary structures; and assist in the installation and dismantling of new, existing and temporary exhibitions. You will interact with Exhibit Production team members, Experience Design and Development staff, as well as Facilities staff members to support the organization’s mission.


Salary Statement

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $56,650.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

 

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Construct and repair exhibitory elements, scenery and auxiliary structures with CNC machine, traditional shop equipment and hand tools.

  • Operate and Program CNC Machine

  • Use CAM, Vectric, or similar software. 

  • Create casts and molds for various scenic and interactive elements.

  • Finish exhibitory elements, scenery and structures with paint, stain, varnish and veneers.

  • Assists in the planning and coordination of the construction, maintenance and installation of temporary and permanent exhibits

  • Assists in the preparation of galleries and exhibit spaces for installation of exhibits, including assembly, dismantling, relocation and rehabilitation of temporary and permanent exhibit structures, alterations to facilities and support activities

  • Basic shop equipment maintenance, adjustments, and routine cleaning of CNC machine, saws, lathes, dust extractors, paint sprayer, etc.

  • Operate Forklift and Scissor Lift

  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized workspace

What You'll Need for Success:

  • Experience with a variety of tools and equipment including but not limited to CNC machine, table saws, drill presses, power drills, routers, sanders, circular saws, sawdust extractor and paint sprayer.

  • Experience operating forklift and scissor lift.

  • Experience with CAM and CAD software, 3D printing experience a plus.

  • Must have good physical and manual dexterity for fine detail work, ability to climb ladders, run forklifts, scissor lifts, stand for long periods and lift 50+ pounds.

  • Must be flexible, open to change and trying new approaches.

  • Ability to create custom exhibit scenery with or without drawings.

  • Ability to read, understand, and follow blueprints, technical plans, elevations and case drawings, precision measurements and shop drawings.

  • Ability to operate and maintain shop equipment.

  • Ability to integrate plastics, metal, and other material into millwork design and construction.

  • Experience creating scenery via cast/mold making and foam carving.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

  • Ability to meet deadlines independently, and exercise creativity and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent computer skills including competency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.

  • Extended hours occasionally required during installations.
