Role Overview: 

A Sales Associate is responsible for supporting the daily operations of a retail store by maintaining positive relationships with customers and organizing display shelves. Their duties include greeting customers and helping them find specific products within the store, taking inventory of products and restocking shelves as needed and managing the POS system to administer refunds or process payments for customers. This position requires a flexible schedule including some weekends and evenings.


Salary Statement

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $16.73/hr but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Perform opening procedures including verifying starting cash, turning on lights, opening doors and completing a walk-through of the floor to ensure it is neat and presentable to the visitors

  • Greeting customers as they enter the store demonstrating excellent customer service

  • Working at the point-of-sale counter to process transactions

  • Assisting customers in locating products

  • Suggesting new items to customers based on their selections

  • Monitoring the merchandise and restocking displays on the floor

  • Light cleaning including dusting and sweeping

  • Check in new merchandise including verifying shipment, updating point-of-sale inventory, printing labels and applying to merchandise

  • Building customer relationships

  • Performing closing procedures including locking doors, turning off lights and completing a walk-through of the floor to ensure it is neat and presentable for the following day

  • Closing out the cash drawer, including counting cash, check and credit receipts and balancing to closing report from point-of sale system

  • Assist in the preparation and counting of merchandise for the annual physical inventory

What You'll Need for Success:

You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment:

  • High school diploma or HSE with one year of experience in sales

  • General accounting knowledge

  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office software, Blackbaud Altru experience is beneficial

  • Knowledge of customer service standards

  • Ability to operate various types of office equipment

  • Effective verbal communication skills

  • Must be able to operate independently

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Flexible schedule a MUST, including weekends and some evenings
