About the Job:

A State Personnel Department (SPD) Business Analyst is responsible for applying their business process knowledge to configure SAP SuccessFactors according to operational need. They evaluate the agency's business needs, prioritize or configure technical systems or tools to perform specific business processes, and provide technical support and quality assurance testing alongside the business process owners.


The key responsibility for an SPD Business Analyst is support to the following modules of SuccessFactors: Employee Profile, Recruiting Management, Onboarding and Offboarding, Performance and Goals, Succession and Career Development, and Learning Management.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows: 

  • Provides technical leadership on complex projects;
  • Projects software and hardware requirements for application software;
  • Support the functional operation and administration of the SAP HCM application, to include system configuration and maintenance;
  • Assist in the review, testing and implementation of HR/PY system upgrades and patches, to include SuccessFactors routine releases and required testing;
  • Assist in analyzing, designing and implementing system solutions in support of organizational and business requirements;
  • Collaborate with the HR business process owners and field team to assist with producing HR strategic and operational reporting needs using SAP Ad Hoc Query and SuccessFactors dashboard/reporting;
  • Serve as an integral part of the agency technology team and work closely with HR and Finance management to determine system priorities;
  • Participate in system and user acceptance testing and evaluation. Serve as first level tester before engaging Subject Matter Experts or Business Process Owners;
  • Recommend procedures and best practices;
  • Create and maintain appropriate system documentation for internal control;
  • Identify, research, troubleshoot and resolve user issues. Log and track issues using a ticket tracking application;
  • Ensure data integrity and quality of data output;

What You'll Need for Success:

  • Thorough knowledge of information systems design principles and new systems design techniques;
    • SAP SuccessFactors experience is a plus;
  • Thorough knowledge of policies, standards, procedures, and techniques used for application development;
  • Thorough knowledge of application development software tools and application development software languages;
  • Thorough knowledge of the most recent advancement of information technology equipment, operation, and capabilities;
  • Thorough knowledge of both system and business applications and competent to work at the highest technical level and/or specialized area;
  • Ability to perform problem-solving and analytical analysis;
  • Ability to work independently under general direction;
  • Ability to manage multiple application development software projects or existing systems and related priorities;
  • Ability to read and understand complicated technical manuals;
  • Ability to establish and maintain a cooperative working relationship with others;
  • Effectively communicate both orally and in writing.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role does not provide direct supervision to direct reports.
