About NeuroDiagnostic Institute

NeuroDiagnostic Institute and Advanced Treatment Center located on the campus of Community East Hospital in Indianapolis, and operated in partnership with Community Health Network, delivers advanced evaluation and treatment for patients with the most challenging and complex neuropsychiatric illnesses and moves them more efficiently into the most appropriate treatment settings within the community or state mental health system. The NDI is a key component the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration’s initiative to modernize and reengineer Indiana’s network of state-operated mental health facilities.



This position traditionally starts at an annual salary of $28,366.00. Salary for this position may be commensurate with education and job experience.


About the Job:

The Rehabilitation Therapy Assistant plans, conducts and assesses treatment programs to meet the identified needs of the patients/residents within a state facility. 

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:
•    Directs, instructs and supervises patients/residents in specialized activities;
•    Conducts rehabilitation programs independently for assigned patients/residents in a manner consistent with the policies and procedures;
•    Advises and reinforces patients/residents on acceptable social behavior employing behavior modification or other techniques;
•    Plans, develops and schedules activities for therapeutic field trips;
•    Observes and documents patient/resident progress, attendance, behavior and outcomes for the individual patients/residents assigned to their program;
•    Assists in the training and supervising of lower-level assistants;
•    Maintains and organizes resident library materials assisting them in library use and recommending reading material based on their interests;
•    Writes daily program activities and lesson plans for group and individual therapy sessions;
•    Assists in the care and maintenance of facilities and ordering of supplies and equipment making minor repairs on special equipment;
•    Attends treatment team meetings and provides input as to individual patients’/residents’ progress and needs;
•    Assesses patient’s/resident’s daily progress and makes recommendations regarding changes in therapeutic activities;

What We're Looking For:

•    Prefer two (2) years’ work experience rendering direct care to special populations of developmentally disabled; emotionally disturbed; geriatric; or substance abusers in a clinic, community, or hospital setting; or accredited college training in a related field.  Prefer at least one year of the required experience must be in rendering rehabilitative services to the listed special populations.
•    High School Diploma or GED preferred.
•    Must obtain CPR and CPI certification, demonstrate ability to perform techniques, and maintain certification throughout employment.
•    Understanding of the symptoms associated with a serious mental illness and approaches to treatment.
•    Ability to implement program plans as written.
•    Ability to interpret written treatment plans and other clinical documents.
•    Basic understanding of treatment models involving Health Protection/Health Promotion and WRAP and the principles of CPI.
•    Ability to maintain an organized, safe program environment.
•    Basic computer skills.

Specialized knowledge of standard techniques and methods of providing rehabilitation;
Knowledge of laws, regulations and policies related to rehabilitation therapy;
Working knowledge of limitations and needs of the physically challenged;
Working knowledge of, and proper use of, special equipment or materials utilized in rehabilitation therapy;
Working knowledge of sociology and psychology as they relate to assessing rehabilitation needs of patients/residents;
Working knowledge of, and ability to implement, behavior modification techniques to complement rehabilitation therapy programs;
Ability to stimulate patient’s/resident’s interests in specialized activities;
Ability to assess patient’s/resident’s progress and needs, changing instructional methods as appropriate;
Effectively communicate, both orally and in writing.
