This position traditionally starts at an annual salary of $33,748.  Salary for this position may be commensurate with education and job experience.

HIV Prevention Support Specialist

The Public Health Administrator supports HIV Prevention Program staff, sub-recipient staff, and other community partners performing HIV Prevention throughout Indiana. Incumbent works with prevention team managers and coordinators on the planning, development and implementation of HIV Testing, PrEP, High Impact Interventions and Special Populations Support Program initiatives. Incumbent assists with quality assurance monitoring, evaluation and feedback on program outcomes and deliverables. Incumbent assists the HIV Prevention Program Director and Program Manager with creation of standardized messaging about HIV prevention for public health professionals, medical providers, internal and external partners, and the general public. highly specific programs that fall out of the realm of standard preventon interventions. Incumbent monitors data collection through 4 databases, email and US mail. Incumbent assists with quality data collection and reporting to multiple funding sources.

A day in the life

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Supports HIV Prevention Programs with database technical issues and training
  • Provides TA and support to sub-recipients on materials, supplies, testing kits, brochures and other program materials
  • Provides TA and support to sub-recipients on data input and submission of data for grant reporting requirements
  • Assists in updating state-level SOPs
  • Acts as liaison to local organizations regarding HIV prevention intervention, harm reduction and services programs
  • Increases Prevention capacity within target high-risk demographics and populations such as Men who have Sex with Men (MSM), People who Inject Drugs (PWID) and select minority populations
  • Participates with quality assurance site visits; provides feedback to local agency staff and ISDH supervisor with recommendations for improvements/corrections and timelines 
  • Assists in the writing of the HIV Prevention grants and MOUs
  • Helps document and disseminate program performance data and reports for HIV Prevention staff
  • Maintains working knowledge of national, regional and local harm-reduction and HIV prevention activities, providing recommendations on methods of incorporation into statewide plans
  • Assists in training providers on the use and maintenance of all HIV prevention intervention data collection systems and generate reports as appropriate

  • Consumer population experience: understanding social determinants of health, previous work or training with health or social service delivery to: Communities of Color; LGBTQ; Substance Using Populations
  • Knowledge and understanding of HIV/STD/viral hepatitis and prevention strategies
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws, guidelines and recommendations pertaining to HIV prevention
  • Knowledge and understanding of grant funding sources, processes and requirements
  • Knowledge of community resources, both public and private
  • Knowledge and experience with data collection and analysis
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing to diverse audiences
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from culturally diverse backgrounds and ethnicities
  • Ability to analyze, strategize and critically think
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, security, and integrity of records and data
  •  Ability to manage time and complete numerous daily tasks while advancing plans for future programming
  • Ability to organize sub-recipient portfolios; prioritize needs and support sub-recipients in better fulfilling grant responsibilities and deliverables
  • Ability to set priorities assisting sub-recipients to maintain agency and program stability and build agency prevention capacity
