Salary:
This position traditionally starts at an annual salary of $39,000. Salary for this position may be commensurate with education and job experience.
 
Role Overview:
This position will work in Indianapolis in Central Office of the Department of Child Services (DCS) within the Central Office Background Check Unit (COBCU). The COBCU is responsible for the use of uniform standards and procedures in regards to all background checks completed and evaluated for the purpose of the protection of Indiana children. The COBCU's duties include oversight of background checks, primarily focus on the consistent and timely evaluation of FBI/State fingerprint based criminal history checks, the determination of the existence of child abuse and neglect history and the communication of findings to the appropriate parties. This position advises on policy and procedure in regards to the results of fingerprint based criminal history checks, child abuse and neglect checks, local law enforcement agency checks as well as national sex offender registry check, which at times includes the collection and submission of criminal and/or CPS waiver actions. The overall goal of the position is to ensure DCS background checks are completed and evaluated in a manner that promotes child safety and well-being, adhering to state law, administrative rules and DCS policies and that this is completed with reasonable consistency across the state.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Research and compile information on specific aspects of the program such as procedures, needs and policies.
  • Answer basic customer questions about program policies and procedures.
  • Establish, organize, and maintain current and historical files related to the program.
  • Collect information to help in the preparation of program reports, develop applications, prepare budget allocations and/or purchasing of consultative services.
  • Maintain, organize, and monitor program assets.
  • Schedule, prepare, and disseminate all program related training materials.

This person must have the following requirements to be considered for employment:

  • General knowledge of the program area.
  • Working knowledge of applicable legislation, guidelines, agency policy and professional standards and practices.
  • Ability to research and compile specific topics related to program area.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a group decision-making process.
  • Tact in dealing with other agency personnel and the public.
  • Specialized knowledge of accounting principles.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
