About the Indiana Department of Insurance (IDOI):

 

The Indiana Department of Insurance protects Hoosiers as they purchase and use insurance products to keep their assets and their families from loss or harm.  The IDOI also monitors the financial solvency of insurance companies in Indiana so that legal promises in insurance policies are honored.

 

Role Overview:

 

The Policy Analyst for Insurance Filings receives, reviews, and acts on product filings.  You will ensure that filings are compliant with applicable insurance laws and regulations.  You will work with a high degree of independence.

 

Daily activities will include:

  • Tracking submissions using SERFF (System for Electronic Rate and Form Filing)
  • Reviewing all insurance filings received by the IDOI
  • Assigning filings according to division policy
  • Ensuring that all submissions are reviewed and recieve a response within thirty (30) days
  • Communicateing with insurance companies, rating organizations, and other industry-related persons regarding filings
  • Conducting research and providing feedback to senior staff on proposed policies, bulletins, proposed legislation, and special projects 

 

A Day in the Life:

 

The essential functions of the job are as follows:  

  • Track submissions using SERFF (System for Electronic Rate and Form Filing). 
  • Assigning filings, on a rotating basis with other policy analysts. 
  • Ensure that all submissions are reviewed or responded to within 30 days. 
  • Communicate with insurance companies, rating organizations, and other industry-related persons regarding filings. 
  • Review all Insurance filings received by the agency. 
  • Maintain an up-to-date list of companies selling Insurance policies in Indiana. 
  • Conduct research and provide feedback to senior staff on proposed changes, needed bulletins, possible legislation, and special projects.

What You'll Need for Success:

 

You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment:  

  • Advanced knowledge to organize and plan work for yourself and instruct and coordinate other staff with limited supervision when necessary. 
  • Specialized knowledge to perform mathematical/statistical computations 
  • Advanced to function in different database platforms 
  • Specialized knowledge of the principles and practices of the insurance industry. 
  • Knowledge of insurance statues and codes. 
  • Ability to interpret and apply insurance laws, guidelines and regulations. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively. 

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role does not provide direct supervision to direct reports.

 

Salary:

 

This position traditionally starts at an annual salary of $53,222.  Salary for this position may be commensurate with education and job experience.
