About the Indiana Office of Technology (IOT):

 

The Indiana Office of Technology provides cost-effective, secure, consistent, reliable enterprise-technology services to our partner agencies so that they can better serve our mutual customer, the Hoosier taxpayer. IOT will also act as the technology and solution enabler for the State, helping its partner agencies achieve business objectives and innovation.
 

Role Overview:

 

The PeopleSoft Financials Procurement Agent initiates relationships with suppliers to provide guidance on doing business with the State of Indiana and IOT.  You will evaluate vendor quotes for completeness, accuracy, and alignment with procurement standards.  This includes resolving procurement and purchase order issues that arise.  You will coordinate with appropriate state offices to ensure compliance with regulations.

 

A Day in the Life:

 

The essential functions of this role are as follows: 

  • Prepare, examine, and analyze accounting records financial reports to assess compliance with procedural standards. 
  • Analyze business operations, trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations to project future revenues and expenses or to provide advice.
  • Maintain or examine the records of government agencies. 
  • Advise the appointing authority, controller, and/or supervisor of the status of all accounts. 
  • Develop policies and procedures for general accounting and bookkeeping. 
  • Reconcile complex discrepancies between accounts and notifies the appropriate department or supervisor of errors.
  • Oversee usage of the computerized accounting system. 
  • Establish work methods and control measures for accounting/bookkeeping functions. 
  • Certify the accuracy of the agency’s financial records and accounts. 
  • Control the flow of appropriated funds.
  • Prepare and review reports for grant reconciliation for grant funded accounts. 
  • Serve as liaison between agency and the federal government or other funding source for assigned account.
  • Direct program staff in accounting matters relating to specific program funding and the preparation of agency or program area budget requests. 
  • Assist the controller with analyzing or preparing budgets, and prepare periodic reports that compare budgeted costs to actual costs.

What You'll Need for Success:

 

This person must have the following requirements to be considered for employment: 

  • Extensive knowledge of the theories, principles, and practices of public accounting. 
  • Extensive knowledge of federal and state laws, policies, and procedures as they pertain to accounting and bookkeeping. 
  • Extensive knowledge of agency organization, function, and purpose. 
  • Extensive knowledge of automated accounting systems. 
  • Ability to lead budget preparations. 
  • Ability to direct the preparation and interpretation of complex financial statements and reports. 
  • Ability to analyze and solve complex accounting problems. 
  • Ability to develop new, or modify existing, accounting procedures and methods. 
  • Effectively communicate, both orally and in writing. 

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role may serve as a team lead for an assigned work group.

Salary:

 

This position traditionally starts at an annual salary of $37,778.  Salary for this position may be commensurate with education and job experience.
