Role Overview:

This position is within the DOC Payroll Department.  You will be assigned facilities to process bi-weekly payroll as well as be an expert at all state personnel, payroll and internal DOC policies. This position will also assist with training within the department as well as make recommendations of updates to training documents. 

 

 

Salary:

The salary for this position is $42,900.00 but may be commensurate with education and/or experience.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Function as the Department’s Payroll Director during absences of the Payroll Director.
  • Supervise up to one (1) Clerical Assistant position and thirteen (13) facility Payroll Accountant positions which process payroll for up to 750 employees each.
  • Interpret and ensure compliance with the FLSA and other various federal, state, and local related laws, regulations, and Department policies.
  • Process bi-weekly payrolls for facility accountants as needed.
  • Act as liaison to GMIS with agency PeopleSoft Time and Labor problem resolution, the Auditor’s Office, Sate Personnel, the Payroll Director, and DOC facilities.
  • Conduct training for new Payroll Accountants and continue training for current Payroll Accountants.
  • Maintain established reports and develop reports as requested by agency Executive staff.
  • Review and complete benefit Prior Year Corrections for the State Personnel Department.   
  • Complete employment verifications.
  • Coordinate and reconcile facility Cash Spot Bonus Detail Reports to the Commissioner’s CSB Budget Report.   
  • Perform administrative duties as assigned by supervisor and Division Director.

What You'll Need for Success:

  • Four (4) years professional experience in accounting; auditing; business administration; fiscal management; personnel administration; public administration or related experience, or four (4) years accredited college training in a related field, and one (1) year supervisory experience.

You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment:

  • Thorough knowledge of theories, principles, and practices of public accounting.
  • Thorough knowledge of federal and state accounting laws, policies, and procedures.
  • Thorough knowledge of agency organization and function.
  • Thorough knowledge of automated accounting systems.
  • Ability to solve relatively complex accounting and budgeting problems.
  • Ability to develop accounting methods and procedures to meet agency needs.
  • Ability to assist in budget preparation.
  • Ability to prepare and interpret financial statements and reports.
  • Ability to reconcile discrepancies in accounts.
  • Ability to develop effective work relationships.
  • Effective communication skills. 

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role may serve as a team lead for an assigned work group.
