Role Overview

The Out of School Time intermittent Educator facilitates afterschool programs at offsite locations. You will lead afterschool STEAM programming for K-5 audiences. You will travel to sites in Marion and surrounding counties for programming, typically occurring from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. during weekdays. This role is for someone with experience working with youth and should be comfortable leading activities independently.

 

You will work with the Engagement department starting in January 2026 and work through May of 2026.  Your schedule will be Monday - Friday, 18 - 20 hours a week.

 


Salary

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $16.73 per hour.

A Day in the Life:

Responsibilities include:

  • Implement and teach outreach programs at locations in the Marion County and contiguous counties.
  • Mentor and encourage creativity, exploration, and a hands-on, open-ended learning environment.
  • Travel to partner organizations.
  • Manage inventory of program materials.
  • Modify program activities as necessary to better meet student needs.
  • Engage students grades K – 8th in STEM, STEAM, and art programs.
  • Preparation of program examples and material bins.
  • Collection of program data.
  • Communication with partner locations and out of school time manager.
  • Assist with school, homeschool, scout, and camp programs as needed.

What You'll Need for Success:

  • High school diploma required. Bachelor’s degree or degree seeking preferred.
  • Experience working with children aged K-8.
  • Formal/informal teaching experience preferred.
  • Strong communication skills with large groups of children.
  • Ability to work Monday – Friday during the afternoon.
  • Must be comfortable working independently.
  • Reliable transportation needed.
  • Completion of online child protection course upon hiring.
  • Able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

 

Benefits of Employment with the State of Indiana:

This seasonal position does not offer benefits and is limited to 180 working days in an eleven (11) month continuous period.
