This position traditionally starts at an annual salary of $37,778.   Salary for this position may be commensurate with education and job experience.

About the Job:

The Office of Minority Health Program Manager provides support to OMH staff and oversees aspects of program development, delivery, promotion, and technical assistance and scheduling instruction in accordance to OMH and ISDH goals. The Program Manager is responsible for the training and daily supervision of all interns and temporary staff. The Program Manager is also responsible for developing and fostering relationships with community organizations to focus on program growth.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Provides expert advice to internal and external partners particularly in the area of minority health, health disparities, and health equity
  • Serves as a resource to the Indiana State Department of Health, Office of Minority Health program areas and external stakeholders
  • Represents OMH internally and externally at required events, meetings, engagements, etc.
  • Answers inquries from the public concerning minority health or directs them to the appropriate expert in assigned area
  • Assist the Director and OMH program staff in planning efforts for all programming and implementation efforts
  • Makes recommendations to Director about procedures and methods to improve efficiency and effectiveness
  • Supervises interns and temporary staff during their durarion
  • Provides resource information to program partners on types of funding opportunities available, federal and agency requirements for obtaining grants and process of applying for grants
  • Assist Minority Health Partners and local minority health coalitions with tracking and applying for grants using epidemiological data and other supporting documents
  • Assit with development of public health priorities and specific performance goals for creating a culturally competent workforce(organize trainings, assit with technical assitance, facillitating internal and external meetings for health equity,etc.) 
  • Keeps current in the field of health equity, health disparities, minority health and its relationship to all  disparant populations
  • Serves as a co- Director for the Indiana Black & Minority Health Fair.  Will be responsible for oversight of Indiana Black & Minority Health Fair sponsor and exhibitor registration and volunteer registrations
  • OMH’s representative to internal, local, and statewide partners
  • Assists with coordinating and staffing council and committee meetings

What We're Looking For:

  • Must have at minimum a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Affairs, Public Health, or a field that addresses social services. 

What You'll Need for Success:

  • Considerable ability to write reports 
  • Working knowledge of computers including software programs (Microsoft Office,etc.)
  • Advanced ability to use empathy and be culturally sensitive with people from varied backgrounds and ethnicities
  • Willingness to take on various assignments to achieve positive results for the department
  • Assit with development of public health priorities and specific performance goals for creating a culturally competent workforce(organize trainings, assit with technical assitance, facillitating internal and external meetings for health equity,etc.) 
  • Build awareness and act as the subject matter expert on industry trends, new tools and opportunities in the areas of health disparity, health equity, and minority health 
  • Ability to work collaboratively and be a good listener, communicator, and facilitator
  • Commitment to and experience working with diverse communities
  • Act as a diversity ambassador and maintain a clear understanding of the ISDH's commitment to engage our minority health partners 

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role may serve as a team lead for an assigned work group.
