Role Overview

The Lottery Investigator conducts criminal, intelligence, background and other types of investigations in support of the Hoosier Lottery. This is law enforcement work involving the identification, investigation, and prosecution of law violators or suspected law violators. This role will serve the area in the west-central portion of the State.

 


Salary Statement

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $61,200.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

 

A Day in the Life:

  • Investigates violations of Indiana Code specific to the Lottery.  Such investigations might involve collecting of evidence, obtaining statements, serving warrants, making arrests and any other duties necessary to bring such investigations to conclusion;

  • Conducts internal investigations concerning allegations and complaints made against Hoosier Lottery associates;

  • Works with Hoosier Lottery staff, federal, state, county and local law enforcement agencies and their representatives in the conduct of cooperative investigations;

  • Collects necessary validation materials from retailers for winning tickets;

  • Provides security for lottery drawings for both online and instant ticket lottery games as well as for special drawings and second-chance promotional drawings;

  • Conducts periodic inspections of lottery offices to ensure a safe workplace for all associates;

  • Writes detailed reports to make permanent record of occurrences significant to the Lottery;

  • Provides secure transportation, when needed, of Lottery personnel or property;

  • Investigates complaints arising from players, retailers, Lottery associates or elsewhere;

  • Coordinates evacuation plans and severe weather plans for regional offices;

  • Monitors sales and redemption practices of retailers in region of assignment, initiating investigations when necessary;

  • Processes and immediately acts upon complaints received directly from customers or retailers;

  • Provides secure deposits of Lottery proceeds from Prize Payment and Hoosier Lottery ITVMs;

  • Performs other required tasks as assigned.

What You'll Need for Success:

  • Graduate of an accredited law enforcement academy;

  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing;

  • Knowledge of and experience with various security techniques and concepts, specifically in the area of computers;

  • In addition to the above requirements, any person employed in this class must comply with the provisions of Indiana Code 4-30 et seq.;

  • Is at least 21 years of age;

  • Is a United States citizen;

  • Is a high school graduate or its equivalent as the term may be determined by the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy;

  • Has never been convicted (adjudicated guilty) of any felony or a misdemeanor involving perjury or a false statement;

  • Has not been dishonorably discharged from any of the U.S. Armed Forces;

  • Has passed a physical examination by a licensed physician, based on specifications established by the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy;

  • Has a good moral character as determined by a background investigation;

  • Has completed a course of training established by the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in accordance with Indiana Law or be exempt under Indiana Code 5-2-1-9 (b);

  • Must be able to legally and safely operate motor vehicles, sometimes for considerable distances.

Additional Requirements

  • An associate assigned to this position must qualify on a continuing basis with an authorized firearm selected by the Director of Security. Qualification for proficiency must conform to the standards established by the Division of Security.

  • An associate assigned to this position may be required to undergo sporadic drug screening tests, either as part of the random testing of all Division of Security employees, or at the specific direction of the Division Director when there is reasonable suspicion that drug abuse may be occurring by the associate.  A positive test result may be reason for immediate termination of employment.
