Role Overview:
The Legislative intern role will play an important role in the in the policy team at the IEDC and will be entrusted to assist the IEDC legislative team on various topics. This team’s mission surrounds engaging the general assembly and being knowledgeable on various IEDC programs as well as implementing policy at the statewide level. The team has a proven track record of assisting local and state policy makers and engaging the public regarding IEDC initiatives and programs and the intern will receive a hands-on experience while being a member of the team. The duration of this internship is January 2025 to May 2025.
Salary Statement:
The salary for this position is $18/hr.
A Day in the Life:
Examples of Essential Functions:
- Legislative engagement, through direct and indirect communication
- Research introduced legislation for potential impacts to the IEDC
- Assist policy team through covering legislative committees and reporting committee actions
- Assist in scheduling meetings for the policy team and agency leadership with legislative members
- Draft initial correspondence and legislative reports for team and agency leadership review
- Support Policy team in other key areas that are inclusive of but not limited to:
- Operational Support
- Draft notes of committee actions
- Monitor legislation of interest to the IEDC and other state agencies
- Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelors degree completed, or on a path towards graduation desired, with a background in Public Policy, Political Science, or other governmental area of study preferred
Experience and Skills:
- Prior Indiana General Assembly engagement preferred
Knowledge of:
- Microsoft Office suite
- Hannah News Service
- Indiana Code
- State Legislative and policymaking procedure
Ability to:
- Be an effective and engaging communicator, including writing clearly and concisely
- Meet required deadlines
- Schedule meetings
- Handle multiple tasks and manage multiple priorities
- Pay keen attention to detail
- Be a team player with a willingness to assist the coordinated team in meeting goals and objectives
- Be involved and learn on a daily basis
Benefits of Employment with the State of Indiana:
This seasonal position does not offer benefits and is limited to 180 working days in an eleven (11) month continuous period
