About the Indiana Department of Labor (IDOL):
The mission of the Indiana Department of Labor is to advance the safety, health, and prosperity of Hoosiers in the workplace. To make significant strides in achieving our mission, we emphasize both enforcement and voluntary compliance for employers. Our office administers the IOSHA program, state wage and hours, youth employment laws, and underground coal mine safety. We also have many free training and educational resources available to the public through our INSafe Division. Salary Statement:
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $67,314.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.
A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this role are as follows:
- Conduct on-site consultations to ensure businesses are in compliance with IOSHA safety standards.
- Analyze program administration and standard operations to determine compliance with all applicable federal and state regulations.
- Educate employers, employees, and the public on IOSHA standards.
- Provide training to employers, employees, and the general public on how to recognize hazards and ensure corrective measures are taken.
- Assist employers, employees, and the general public on the development of workplace safety and health programs.
- Prepare technical reports on training provided.
- Complete detailed reports on consultations performed.
- Complete accurate and timely records and reports related to travel, work schedule and work activities.
- Collaborate with INSafe and IOSHA peers, as well as contacts within the U.S. Department of Labor to stay abreast of current trends, training and changes in safety and health laws.
- Essential functions of this position require travel on most workdays to inspect, audit, examine, survey, or investigate clients, customers, or other regulated entities and write reports at those sites or employee’s home. Employee reports to the agency’s office for occasional meetings or events. Number and timing of work hours may vary daily or weekly to accommodate operational needs and staffing concerns at the client’s or customer’s worksite, minimize expenditures for repeated visits to complete the work, and allocate resources to complete assigned work effectively.
This position is exempt from overtime compensation for additional work hours which may be required to complete essential functions or other assigned work. Exempt employees may work more than 75 hours in a pay period without additional compensation and must report a minimum of 75 hours per pay period of work hours and/or paid leave taken to receive their base biweekly salary.

What You'll Need for Success:
You must have the following requirements to be considered for employment:
- Thorough knowledge of and the ability to appropriately apply Federal and State laws and regulations pertaining to occupational health standards.
- Exceptional verbal, written and presentation skills; knowledge of effective training and educational methods and techniques.
- Ability to manage difficult situations.
- Strong computer skills and accurate data entry; proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Be willing to travel with reasonable accommodation.
- Able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
