This position works as a Intake Duty Officer within the Indiana Department of Labor's IOSHA Division.  This position is an essential component of the agency as IOSHA is responsible for the enforcement of safety and health regulations.  The incumbent receives complaints, referrals, and fatality reports from the public and private sector. The position follows established policies and procedures to document and report violations of safety and health regulations to supervisors for assignment to compliance officers for investigation or inspection.

What We Are Looking For:

The essential functions of this role are as follows: 

  • Provides routine policy interpretation and related decisions to interested parties;
  • Acts as liaison between program or department administration and state agencies, news media and interested parties;
  • Researches and prepares various reports for supervisor;
  • Attends meetings and conferences representing the program or department administrator;
  • Prepares correspondence and verbal communication with the public or other agency representatives;
  • Coordinates clerical and administrative functions;
  • Provides technical guidance and composes manuals for agency personnel;
  • Answers correspondence;
  • Interviews and counsels clerical employees;

Preferred Experience:
  • Specialized knowledge of the basic principles and theories of administrative management;
  • Working knowledge of research techniques and report composition;
  • Working knowledge of functions of other departments and agencies as they impact on incumbent’s department;
  • Ability to analyze procedures and policies and writes procedural manuals to recommend improvements;
  • Ability to coordinate the work of the section staff;
  • Ability to maintain cooperative work relationships.
Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:
This role does not provide direct supervision to direct reports.

If this is an Intermittent position, the position does not offer benefits and is limited to 180 working days in an eleven (11) month continuous period.
