About the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute (ICJI)

The Indiana Criminal Justice Institute (ICJI) is the State planning agency for criminal justice, juvenile justice, traffic safety, and victim services. ICJI is designated as the State Administering Agency for the distribution of federal funds, and as the State Statistical Analysis Center for research.
Further, ICJI is responsible for coordinating and collaborating with local, state, and federal entities to identify, assess, plan, resource, and evaluate new and emerging issues facing the criminal justice and public safety spectrum. ICJI works with local, state, and federal entities to evaluate programs associated with the prevention, detection & solution of crimes; law enforcement, and criminal/juvenile justice, to improve and coordinate all aspects of law enforcement and criminal/juvenile justice.

 

Salary Statement

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $42,900.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

 

Role Overview:

As the Grant Coordinator, you will be responsible for performing journey-level grant development, coordination, and administration work. In this position, you will coordinate, review, evaluate, and report grants at various stages to determine the appropriateness of grants or compliance with requirements and standards. You will serve as a liaison between the agency and the funding sources. This position assists in managing the federal and State awards and working with victim service providers to ensure adherence to federal and state regulations.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows: 

  • Serve as a grants manager for victim services and is responsible for the monitoring of state and federal funding streams secured by sub grantees from ICJI.

  • Serves as a subject matter expert regarding the Grants Management system and provides resource information to recipients on types of grants available, federal and agency requirements for obtaining grants and the process of applying for grants, reporting requirements, and frequently solving new or unprecedented problems or considerations.

  • Review and score submitted grant applications, assess the applicant’s eligibility for award, and provide recommendations to the grant review committee(s) based on established criteria. 

  • Collaborate with grantees on revisions needed to their application once awarded, to ensure an accurate budget, detailed narrative, SMART goals, and required attachments are provided.

  • Prepare and process the grantee’s application through the contract management system. Monitor and review reports (program and fiscal and program modifications) submitted for reimbursement and provide annual monitoring via reports (risk assessments, desk reviews, site visits, etc.).

  • Maintain files and records and prepare reports related to grant activities for grants issued and received.  

  • Use risk analysis to determine the need for technical assistant to grantees.

  • Provide training to the agency and sub grantees on the policies and procedures as well as interpretations of the policies and procedures when questions arise.

  • Keeps abreast of federal program requirements and guidelines and ensures compliance by grantees.

  • Ensure a grantee’s compliance with conditions of grants by coordinating agreements, contracts, expenses, activities, and federal and state regulations. 

  • Assist Victim Service Director in the implementation of specific policies and procedures for victim services grants based on the broad guidelines established by CJI, DOJ, OVC, OVW and other federal and state agencies.

What You'll Need for Success:

You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment: 

  • Three (3) years of work experience in grant programs, program planning, public administration, and related fields. 
  • Advanced knowledge of grants, the grant application process, and rules and regulations pertaining to grants applicable to assigned programs. 
  • Advanced knowledge of programs, program planning, public administration, and the political system as they relate to the grant process. 
  • Ability to interpret and apply grant rules, regulations, and procedures. 
  • Ability to research new procedures, rules, and regulations. 
  • Effective communication skills

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
