About the Governor's Summer Internship Program (GSI):
The Governor’s Summer Internship Program (GSI) is designed to give college students real-world, hands-on experience in their desired field of study to enhance marketability upon graduation. Participation in the program will offer students a multitude of experiences including networking with state employees, resume building and soft skills workshops, agency head panels, and much more.
Role Overview:
As an intern within the Department of Correction, you will assist in the daily operations of the division, develop and execute programs aimed at reducing recidivism, improving caseworker resources and quality assurance, and supporting projects. The Reentry Division manages various programs, projects, and processes. These are often resource-intensive, requiring detailed administrative and logistical support. As the intern you can provide essential assistance, helping to streamline projects, collect data, and provide programmatic support. The Re-entry Intern will be tasked with special projects. The current list of potential projects includes, but is not limited to, assisting in locating applicable grants, placement barriers, developing community partnerships, creating new educational/training materials for the reentry process (START classes), assisting in the development and expansion of the reentry continuous quality improvement process, and a restorative justice family program.
Hourly Rate:
The hourly rate for this position is $16.24 for those that do not hold a bachelor’s degree and $17.24 for those that hold a bachelor’s degree or higher by the time the internship starts.
A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this role are as follows:
- Identify and execute one major project related to agency needs and academic area of study
- Create, develop, and sustain the programmatic efforts for the assigned discipline
- Analyze data and feedback to provide recommendations
- Partner with other relevant stakeholders to promote and enhance the quality of projects
- Collaborate with State of Indiana agencies to ensure effective implementation of internal and external initiatives

What You'll Need for Success:
- Must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate with an accredited post-secondary institution and have completed at least one (1) year of undergraduate education.
- Academic work in related field

- Ability to analyze data sets related to discipline
- Ability to build relationships, establish credibility, and influence leaders at all levels
- Ability to conduct well-informed research
- Ability to solve complex, critical problems
- Ability to review and make recommendations on proposed changes to relevant policies and procedures
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
