About the Family & Social Services Administration (FSSA):
 

FSSA was established by the Indiana General Assembly in 1991 to consolidate and better integrate the delivery of human services by state government. FSSA is a health care and social services funding agency. Ninety-four percent of the agency’s total budget is paid to thousands of service providers ranging from major medical centers to a physical therapist working with a child or adult with a developmental disability. The seven care divisions in FSSA administer services to more than 1.5 million Hoosiers. FSSA’s mission is to compassionately serve Hoosiers of all ages and connect them with social services, health care, and their communities.

 

Indiana 211 is a free service available to all residents of Indiana, which connects people to community resources and programs.  Indiana 211 was consolidated into a statewide entity by the State Legislature in January 2020, serving all of the counties in Indiana.  Our goal is to become the trusted source of community resources throughout the state.   

 

About the Governor's Summer Internship:

 

The summer internship program provides participants the opportunity to work with state agency officials, as well as participate in co-curricular components to enrich their experiences.  Interns spend at least 50 percent of their time on predetermined projects that enhance college-level skills and abilities.  The co-curricular components of the program ensure competitive, reputable, and inclusive experiential learning. Interns participate in cohort activities on a weekly basis designed to enable:

  • Professional growth and preparedness for the workforce upon graduation
  • Exposure to many facets of state government
  • Networking and camaraderie development among the cohort

 

The Indiana 211 Intern serves as a program management assistant, providing a unique opportunity to learn about the process but also participate in three areas of the operations, including the transition of community navigator training modules into a learning tool, research opportunities for community engagement, and seeking new resources within local communities for inclusion into the Indiana 211 database.  This role offers approximately 37.5 hours per week during normal business hours Monday through Friday. Some essential functions are:

  • Work with IN211 Training Director to learn the learning management tool, transition community navigator training modules, and test module assignment and tracking.
  • Work with the IN211 Community Engagement team to identify new opportunities for community engagement based on current summer calendar events, identify new Community Calendar events and assist the team in updating the active community calendar, and analyze community unmet needs data to find resources in underutilized 
  • Work with the IN211 Resource Database Manager to identify new opportunities for community resources for inclusion in the IN211 resource database by locating resource listings within local communities to assess alignment with IN211 and by reviewing resource leads presented by the team and assessing appropriateness for inclusion in IN211 based on the IN211 Inclusion Guidelines.
  • Provide administrative support.

 

Salary

 

The hourly wage for this position traditionally starts at $16.24 per hour for current undergraduate students and $17.24 per hour for those with an earned bachelor’s degree.

 

A Day in the Life:

 

The essential functions of this role are:

  • Identify and execute one major project related to agency needs and academic area of study
  • Create, develop, and sustain the programmatic efforts for the assigned discipline
  • Analyze data and feedback to provide recommendations 
  • Partner with other relevant stakeholders to promote and enhance the quality of projects
  • Collaborate with State of Indiana agencies to ensure effective implementation of internal and external initiatives

  • Must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate with an accredited post-secondary institution and have completed at least one (1) year of undergraduate education.

  • Ability to build relationships, establish credibility, and influence leaders at all levels 
  • Ability to conduct well-informed research
  • Ability to solve complex, critical problems

Benefits of Employment with the State of Indiana:

 

This seasonal position does not offer benefits and is limited to 180 working days in an eleven (11) month continuous period
