Role Overview:
The Governor’s Summer Internship Program (GSI) is designed to give college students real-world, hands-on experience in their desired field of study to enhance marketability upon graduation. Participation in the program will offer students a multitude of experiences including networking with state employees, resume-building and soft skills workshops, agency head panels, and much more.
The Indiana Department of Workforce Development (DWD) is seeking a Finance Division Intern to join our agency in the summer of 2025. The intern will support a variety of projects including, but not limited to, assisting with budget development, assisting with audit requests, and assisting with documentation of policies and procedures within the Finance Division. DWD strengthens Indiana by understanding workforce needs, aligning resources, and providing access to services that empower Hoosiers to thrive in an ever-changing economy. The Finance Division is a support division that oversees all financial operations of the agency.
Salary Statement:
The hourly rate for this position is $16.24 for those who do not hold a bachelor’s degree & $17.24 for those who hold a bachelor’s degree or higher by the time the internship starts.
A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this role are as follows:
- Developing departmental budgets for the agency utilizing Microsoft Excel, Tableau, and budgeting software
- Pulling data from the state’s PeopleSoft Financial Management System and organizing in a way to meet the audit requests received by the agency
- Assist the Internal Control Coordinator with the documentation of policies and procedures throughout the division, including procurement, accounts payable, accounting, and grant management

What You'll Need for Success:
- Must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate with an accredited post-secondary institution and have completed at least one (1) year of undergraduate education.
- Academic work in related field
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to analyze data sets related to discipline
- Ability to build relationships, establish credibility, and influence leaders at all levels
- Ability to conduct well-informed research
- Ability to solve complex, critical problems
- Ability to review and make recommendations on proposed changes to relevant policies and procedures
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
