Role Overview:
The Governor’s Summer Internship Program (GSI) is designed to give college students real-world, hands-on experience in their desired field of study to enhance marketability upon graduation. Participation in the program will offer students a multitude of experiences including networking with state employees, resume-building and soft skills workshops, agency head panels, and much more.
The Indiana Adult Education State Team is seeking an Adult Education Intern to join our agency in the summer of 2025. The intern will support a variety of projects including, but not limited to, reviewing program outreach materials, assisting with student recruitment and referrals, gathering and cataloging promising practices from across the country, and preparing for the Adult Education and Family Literacy Week events. Indiana Adult Education provides high school equivalency preparation, English classes, career training, and workplace literacy classes for over 25,000 Hoosier adults throughout the state. The state team has a primary focus of supporting the 50 adult education providers with services available in all 92 counties.
Salary Statement:
The hourly rate for this position is $16.24 for those who do not hold a bachelor’s degree & $17.24 for those who hold a bachelor’s degree or higher by the time the internship starts.
A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this role are as follows:
- Evaluating outreach activities for programs throughout the state by reviewing digital presence, enrollment trends, and areas of growth opportunities;
- Reviewing current recruitment activities on a local and state level and reaching out to individual inquiries to connect them to programs;
- Researching best practices across other states and programs and building a promising practices guide for new and existing providers;
- Cataloging previous activities from the Adult Education and Family Literacy week; brainstorming new potential events and activities and presenting findings to the field as a capstone project.

What You'll Need for Success:
- Must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate with an accredited post-secondary institution and have completed at least one (1) year of undergraduate education.
- Academic work in related field
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to analyze data sets related to discipline
- Ability to build relationships, establish credibility, and influence leaders at all levels
- Ability to conduct well-informed research
- Ability to solve complex, critical problems
- Ability to review and make recommendations on proposed changes to relevant policies and procedures
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
