About the Indiana Department of Revenue (DOR):
The Indiana Department of Revenue team has over 700 staff members from 13 locations across Indiana. We work collaboratively with the Indiana Governor's office, the General Assembly, state agencies, individuals, business owners, corporations, tax practitioners, and tax program participants to administer Indiana's tax laws. DOR administers over 65 tax types and annually processes nearly $21 billion of tax revenue. Our mission is to serve Indiana by administering tax laws fairly, securely, and efficiently.

Salary:
The hourly wage for this position traditionally starts at $16.24 per hour for current undergraduate students and $17.24 per hour for those with an earned bachelor’s degree.
About the Governor's Summer Internship:
The summer internship program provides participants the opportunity to work with state agency officials, as well as participate in co-curricular components to enrich their experiences. Interns spend at least 50 percent of their time on predetermined projects that enhance college-level skills and abilities. The co-curricular components of the program ensure competitive, reputable, and inclusive experiential learning. Interns participate in cohort activities on a weekly basis designed to enable:
- Professional growth and preparedness for the workforce upon graduation
- Exposure to many facets of state government
- Networking and camaraderie development among the cohort
The Investigations Intern will gain exposure to criminal investigative techniques, criminal case preparation, court procedures, rules of evidence, and the criminal justice process as it applies to violations of Indiana tax laws.
Duties for this position include:
- Attending intern events to gain knowledge and exposure to vast State of Indiana government agencies.
- Assisting with organizing and managing the day-to-day activities of Investigations, assuring efficiency of the office operations, and coordinating communications for the Special Investigations team.
- Evaluating incoming mail and correspondence to determine the validity of fraud complaints, update files according, and log onto a mail log.
- Monitor the Investigations fraud tip line, return calls related to the Criminal Investigations team, and reroute all other calls to the appropriate area.
- Creating a document filing system and organizing existing and incoming documents within the filing system.
- Researching and evaluating legal issues related to criminal investigations and tax fraud.
- Collecting and validating Investigations cases, reporting the status of each case to ensure that the data is accurate, and stored securely, and providing bi-weekly report status to the Director.
- Assisting with Investigations workload distribution, special projects and events, and other duties as assigned, including work with various departments of the Legal division.

The essential functions of this role are:
- Identify and execute one major project related to agency needs and academic area of study
- Create, develop, and sustain the programmatic efforts for the assigned discipline
- Analyze data and feedback to provide recommendations
- Partner with other relevant stakeholders to promote and enhance the quality of projects
- Collaborate with State of Indiana agencies to ensure effective implementation of internal and external initiatives

- Must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate with an accredited post-secondary institution and have completed at least one (1) year of undergraduate education.

Benefits of Employment with the State of Indiana:
This seasonal position does not offer benefits and is limited to 180 working days in an eleven (11) month continuous period
