About The Department of Financial Institutions:

The Indiana Department of Financial Institutions (DFI) works to promote growth and prosperity of local Indiana communities through effective and common-sense regulation. 

 

The DFI is seeking qualified candidates to work in a dynamic and high performing environment, with a well identified career path and significant opportunities to progress throughout the organization.  Depository Division examiners are charged with the following at state chartered financial institutions:
•    Analyzing financial performance 
•    Identifying pertinent risks
•    Assessing risk mitigation practices.
•    Collaborate with CEOs, CFOs, and Board members of multi-billion companies and individuals from the Federal Reserve Bank, the National Credit Union Association, and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation.  

 

The DFI is looking for individuals with the following skills in the following areas:
•    Financial analysis
•    Credit risk assessment
•    Problem solving
•    Financial institution operations.  
•    Most importantly, the DFI is looking for individuals who want to make a difference in the health of the State financial system.
 

Salary Information:

Salary will be determined based on the individual’s job and educational related experience. The Department utilizes seven different examiner level classifications based on experience and skills retained.

About the Job:

In the Financial Examiner – Bank Division role, you will assist in examining the safety and soundness of financial institutions, including assessing financial performance, inherent risk levels, and risk management practices in certain examination functions. You will initially work in a mentee capacity while training and assisting on examination process, and throughout the course of the position work to perform examination functions independently with the goal of serving as Examiner-in-Charge. The examiner will travel (including some overnight travel) to entities within the State of Indiana. You will assist and conduct important examination functions performed to assess the overall risk profile of financial institutions. You will report directly to the Field Manager.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role area as follows:

  • Work with financial institution management to understand the unique operating structure and risk profile of each financial institution.
  • Review strategic objectives and risk mitigation practices of financial institutions.
  • Perform primary financial assessment reviews to gain a perspective on financial health. 
  • Perform individual borrower credit reviews and macro-level credit analysis Assess risk over multiple aspects of the organization. 
  • Develop written narrative supporting the assessment of the financial institution. 
  • Discuss examination analysis, findings, and recommendations with financial institution senior management and Boards of Directors. 
  • Work in a collaborative team environment and utilize the examination tools provided. 
  • Perform Anti-Money Laundering and other compliance reviews. 
  • Achieve compliance with the mentor-based training program. 
  • Satisfactory compliance with training action plans developed by the Field Manager is required.

What You’ll Need for Success:

  • Four (4) year accredited college or university or have relevant industry experience.
  • Demonstrates an ability to assess financial, operational, managerial, and credit risk throughout a financial institution. 
  • Highly motivated and enjoy working in a collaborative environment. 
  • Have the desire to identify, apply and interpret laws, regulations and policies applicable to assigned areas, as well as examination policies and procedures. 
  • Must be willing to travel to exam locations throughout the State of Indiana and to travel to out of state training. 
  • Overnight travel is required on some assignments and training. 
  • Draft report of examination comments and to follow the division’s work paper procedures. 
  • Willingness to research and assist examination staff in resolving issues in the field. 
  • You will be expected to familiarize self with, and assist examiners and supervisory personnel in, the implementation of new laws, regulations, and examination procedures. 
  • Demonstrate an ability to evaluate financial data to measure the performance and risk management systems. 
  • Incorporate findings from management discussions to measure an institution’s performance with guidance.
     

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role does not provide direct supervision to direct reports.

If this is an Intermittent position, the position does not offer benefits and is limited to 180 working days in an eleven (11) month continuous period.
