Salary Information:
This position traditionally starts at an annual salary of $37,778.00 but may be commensurate with education and job experience.

About the Job:

The social media and website coordinator works within the Office of Public Affairs at the Indiana Department of Health (IDOH). This role uses social media to develop and deliver proactive, engaging communications about the agency, drive interest in essential public health issues and promote IDOH as an employer of choice. This position also serves as the primary editor for internal and external web content, assists program areas with marketing requests, and serves as a liaison for media and community outreach efforts.

A Day in the Life:

​The essential functions of this role are as follows: 

  • Create and implement social media strategies to highlight agency priorities
  • Identify, generate and edit daily written and video content for IDOH agency-wide social media accounts
  • Use social media analytics to drive messaging and increase traffic
  • Train staff in agency social media protocols
  • Serve as primary editor and point of contact for all web and Intranet content updates
  • Host monthly meetings of program communications staff to identify promotional opportunities 
  • Assist program areas with coordinating marketing needs, in collaboration with chief communications officer
  • Photograph agency events and distribute images for use in agency communications
  • Work with subject matter experts to answer media requests
  • Write and distribute press releases
  • Edit and proofread agency materials 
  • Staff agency leaders at public events 
  • Assist with agency event planning and coordination
  • Assist with agency graphic design and printing projects

What You'll Need for Success:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communication, journalism, marketing or other related field and a minimum of 2 years of experience in communications or marketing fields, with demonstrated success developing and executing a social media strategy 
  • Demonstrated ability to identify target audiences and devise digital campaigns that engage, inform and motivate
  • Strong knowledge of social media platforms, management tools and analytics, with demonstrated success setting appropriate goals to track performance of social media activities
  • Experience with video and still photography, including video editing
  • Excellent oral and written communication and creative thinking skills 
  • Ability to write and edit for diverse audiences
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team
  • Demonstrated success at multi-tasking, meeting deadlines and prioritizing workflow in urgent situations
  • Knowledge of Associated Press style and commitment to accuracy
  • Strong customer service and time-management skills
  • Ability to quickly understand agency policies and procedures
  • Ability to research complex questions and answer customers accurately and in a timely manner
