Role Overview:

The Classification Director is knowledgeable in all aspects related to classification, sentencing, credit award calculation, release processes, inter-state compact agreements, support services, records, data collection analysis, capacity management, and personnel guidelines. You will also have sound working knowledge and ability to work with other federal, state, and local agencies, including but not limited to: Office of the Attorney General, Judicial System (all levels), Law Enforcement agencies (all levels), Indiana Parole Board, Legislative Director. For the growth and advancement of our Agency, you are expected to work with other DOC divisions including but not limited to medical, behavioral health, IDOC legal services, addiction recovery and veteran services, data science, facility administrative staff, and parole division. Is a knowledgeable resource for all within the Agency on matters relating to divisional processes and responsibilities. 

 

Salary:

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $102,024.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience

 

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Collects and provides analysis of data and direction relating to incarcerated population transportation, capacity management, agency trends and ideas to maximize capacity resources.
  • Collects and provides analysis of data and direction relating to sentencing and release processes, credit awards, disciplinary credit actions, releases, court order interpretation,
  • Collects and provides analysis of data and direction pertaining to central office and facility classification functions, and processes.
  • Collects and provides analysis of data and direction pertaining to the management and security of incarcerated individual records (hard copy and electronic).
  • Provides instruction and scheduling details to Facility Heads, and designated facility staff on matters related to each of the above areas.
  • Ensures all American Correctional Association and IDOC Administrative Policies/Procedures are successfully reviewed on an annual basis.
  • Provides weekly and monthly summaries and data analysis reports to the Deputy Commissioner of Operations.
  • Provides end of year data analysis of sentencing, release, credit award, classification and population data sets to the Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner of Operations of the prior year for agency planning purposes
  • Ensures all related contracts involving IDACS, IRIS, INCite, CHRIS and related external resources are up to date.
  • Develops divisional succession plan and applicable learning opportunities for all divisional supervisory areas

What You'll Need for Success:

You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment:

  • Corrections experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of IDOC Classification Division Administrative Policies and Procedures.
  • Working knowledge of IDOC Administrative Policy and Procedures.
  • Working knowledge of Delta (Offender Management System)
  • Ability to work effectively with all IDOC divisional leadership.
  • Ability to work effectively with Federal, State and Local Courts, Agencies and Offices. Ability to successfully advance IDOC Agency mission initiatives.
  • Ability to work well with others, and independently.
  • Ability to make sound decisions using good judgement.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role may provide direct supervision for one or more staff members.
