Our mission is to implement federal and state regulations to protect human health and the environment while allowing the environmentally sound operations of industrial, agricultural, commercial, and governmental activities vital to a prosperous economy.  We issue air, water, and solid and hazardous waste permits that restrict discharges to environmentally safe levels. Staff members inspect and monitor regulated entities; provide compliance and technical assistance; monitor and assess air, land, and water quality; use enforcement actions as necessary to ensure compliance and respond to incidents involving spills to soil or waters of the state.

Introduction:

Responsible for supporting agency applications at the code and database level including integrations. Also responsible for database management activities including application and database deployment. Assists with server, database, and application upgrades.

About the Job:

As the Database Analyst Senior, you will be responsible for performing highly advanced database administration work. In this position, you will develop, maintain, and monitor integrated database systems. As the Database Analyst Senior, you will compile information from various databases and systems to provide reports and analysis based on data processing and analytical requirements.   You will coordinate changes to computer databases, test and implement the database by applying knowledge of database management systems and implement security measures to safeguard computer databases. 

A Day in the Life:

The essential elements of the job duties: 

  • Develop and advise on standards, guidelines, policies, and procedures designed to ensure the integrity of the database environment. 
  • Implement innovative procedures and methods through an understanding of product capabilities and utilize those capabilities in unique ways to fully use products on the system and meet users’ goals and objectives. 
  • Assist management with identifying and exploring strategies for short and long-range planning for hardware, software changes, and additions. 
  • Evaluate technology and products to determine the feasibility of adding to agency standards. 
  • Develop work plans for assigned projects and manage the execution. 
  • Design and implement logical and physical databases of a moderately complex nature. 
  • Determine aggregation, partitioning, and indexing strategies for physical data. 
  • Monitor and tune database performance, including SQL scripts, hints, execution plans, and materialized views. 
  • Administer end-user access and security at the database level. 
  • Ensure that data is appropriately protected via database backup and related strategies. 
  • Process database software and application of fixes dependent upon the complexity of the environment. 
  • Evaluate and advise on the selection of infrastructure components. 
  • Implement and maintain database catalogs and dictionaries. 
  • Develop integration of database systems through standardized database design techniques. 
  • Prepare reports which assist management in understanding the current hardware/software conditions, performance, and future trends.

What You'll Need for Success:

You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment: 

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in one of the computer sciences or management information systems or equivalent work experience. 
  • A minimum of six (6) years of experience in computer systems analysis and/or computer programming. 
  • Extensive knowledge in software and utilities related to supported DBMS such as Reorg, Backup, Recovery, Load, and Unload. 
  • Extensive knowledge of capacity planning and disaster recovery. 
  • Extensive knowledge of relational database and data warehouse design techniques and dimensional modeling processes. 
  • Extensive knowledge of computer hardware/software capabilities and configurations. 
  • Extensive knowledge of and the ability to apply complex diagnostic, structure, logic, performance, and tuning procedures relative to the operating system. 
  • Extensive knowledge of specialty area(s) of database administration and/or system software such as communication, storage management, operating systems, or capacity planning. 
  • Extensive knowledge of application development and maintenance. 
  • Knowledge of organizational business practices in areas of data quality improvement. 
  • Ability to analyze, communicate and recommend future needs and direction for the agency’s data processing software/hardware environment. 
  • Ability to manage multiple hardware and software projects and priorities. 

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role does not provide direct supervision to direct reports.
