Salary:

 

This position traditionally starts at an annual salary of $59,200.  Salary for this position may be commensurate with education and job experience.
 

Role Overview:

 

The Office of Special Education Data Specialist promotes the integrity and accuracy of data reporting between IDOE and local school districts by providing technical assistance and support to data managers in local school districts. The OSE Data Specialist supports monitoring and fiscal teams to provide technical assistance and training to local schools to help them meet academic goals. The OSE Data Specialist maintains constant communication with school corporation staff and external stakeholders to facilitate interstate and intrastate coordination and to ensure academic integrity. The OSE Data Specialist serves as a technical resource for issues related to students with disabilities). This position collaborates with other Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) divisions to provide advocacy and guidance on how students with disabilities are impacted and best supported in their respective work.

 

A Day in the Life:

 

The essential functions of this role are:

  • Create guidance to customers for research and data support.
  • Guide others to use data and evidence-based methodologies in decision-making, developing goals, and planning.
  • Support and encourage integration of best practices into state data management processes and systems.
  • Meet regularly with accountability partners to seek feedback, advice, and information on best practices.
  • Monitor national, state, and local trends related to policies and best practices for target student populations.
  • Review assessment and key indicators to ensure that data is clear and actionable.
  • Work with Local Education Agencies (LEAs) to determine the root causes that led to noncompliance findings and then develop corrective action plans.
  • Conduct on-site and virtual visits to LEAs as necessary for federal monitoring and technical assistance.
  • Establish systems to organize and display school district and state-level data for use in risk assessments, distinguished school awards, and other IDOE data initiatives.
  • Collaborate with IDOE teams and vendors to support statewide data projects and reporting.
  • Communicate data collection processes and best practices to schools via printed, electronic, and digital platforms.
  • Monitor and analyze school and district performance data for the impact of policies, programs, and student performance.
  • Conduct statistical analysis to identify data trends and then use graphs, reports, and presentations for department leadership.
  • Lead the aggregate data team as written into department contracts.

What You'll Need for Success:

 

You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment:

 

Academic credentials:

  • A Bachelor’s degree and 2+ years of experience in a related field of study or expertise, OR
  • 6+ years of experience in a related field of expertise.

 

Additional requirements.

  • Specialized knowledge in educational systems obtained through experience and/or education
  • Specialized knowledge of education programs and services including pertinent rules and regulations. 
  • Extensive knowledge of all source materials and references including federal and state laws governing the programs. 
  • Ability to develop and implement new processes and approaches and discern any far-reaching implications. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both internal and external customers, the public, government officials, and other stakeholders. 
  • Ability to analyze information and evaluate results to choose the best solution and solve problems. 
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders. 

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role may serve as a team lead for an assigned work group.
