About the Job:

 

The Controller ensures the integrity of accounting-related activities and the use of proper internal controls.  The Controller also assists administering bond programs to ensure reconciliation, recording, and reporting of those program activities.

A Day in the Life:

 

The essential functions of this role are:

  • Oversees the accounting, budget, payroll, and financial reporting activities.
  • Trains and guides accounting personnel.
  • Ensures payroll is processed on schedule.
  • Reviews bank statements and trust accounts, resolves issues, and signs off for audits.
  • Manages the external IHCDA financial audit.
  • Prepares the IHCDA consolidated Financial Statements and the Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Awards along with the required Management Discussion and Analysis, footnotes, and supplemental schedules with the assistance of the Manager of Financial Reporting.

What You'll Need for Success:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.
  • Experience with the application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and Governmental Accounting Standards Board.
  • 10 plus years of accounting and financial reporting experience. At least five years of experience in the area of HFA bond issuance, investments, financial statement preparation, budgeting, payroll, purchasing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, or the equivalent.
  • Experience with accounting software – prefer experience with Great Plains.
  • CPA and/or MBA a plus.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role provides direct supervision for one or more staff members.
