About the Indiana Office of Technology (IOT):

The Indiana Office of Technology provides cost-effective, secure, consistent, reliable enterprise-technology services to our partner agencies so that they can better serve our mutual customer, the Hoosier taxpayer. IOT will also act as the technology and solution enabler for the State, helping its partner agencies achieve business objectives and innovation. 
Position Overview:


The Computer Operator monitors computer systems in the IOT Data Center during assigned hours.  You will respond to various alerts, run routine programs, and assist with application support.

This is a 1st shift position.  Hours will be arranged with your supervisor.  You must be available to work holidays and weekends on a rotating schedule.

A Day in the Life:


The essential functions of this role are as follows: 

  • Operates and monitors various mainframe and midrange computer systems;
  • Operates computers, printers, storage devices, tape drivers and related equipment;
  • Cleans computers, tapes and printers;
  • Directs work of lower-level operators on a periodic basis;
  • Works rotating shifts including weekends.

What You'll Need for Success:

  • Working knowledge of various information technology equipment such as computers, printers and storage devices and also knowledge of their operational limitations;
  • Working knowledge of job control language and/or other scripting languages;
  • Ability to operate various types of computer systems and related equipment;
  • Ability to give clear detailed instructions;
  • Ability to relay requested information quickly and accurately.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role does not provide direct supervision to direct reports.
