About the Indiana Office of Technology (IOT):

 

The Indiana Office of Technology provides cost-effective, secure, consistent, reliable enterprise-technology services to our partner agencies so that they can better serve our mutual customer, the Hoosier taxpayer. IOT will also act as the technology and solution enabler for the State, helping its partner agencies achieve business objectives and innovation.
  

Role Overview:

 

The Computer Operator monitors computer systems in an enterprise data center.  The Data Center Operations Team is the central point of command and control for a wide variety of IT systems and application support.  You will respond to various alerts, run routine programs, and assist with application support.  Systems include Windows, Linux, Unix, z/OS, and various network components using tools such as CA7, CA11, TSO, SDSF, Orion tools, and others.

 

The Center is staffed 24/7/365.  This is a 3rd shift position, 12:00 am – 8:30 am.  You will also work weekends and holidays on a rotating schedule.

 

Salary:

 

This position traditionally starts at an annual salary of $40,404 but may be commensurate with education and job experience.

A Day in the Life:

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Operating and monitoring various mainframe and midrange computer systems.
  • Operating computers, printers, storage devices, tape drivers, and related equipment.
  • Cleaning computers, tapes, and printers.
  • Directing work of lower-level operators periodically.
  • Working rotating shifts that include weekends.

What You'll Need for Success:

 

  • Working knowledge of various information technology equipment such as computers, printers, and storage devices and their operational limitations.
  • Working knowledge of job control language and/or other scripting languages.
  • Ability to operate various types of computer systems and related equipment.
  • Ability to give clear detailed instructions.
  • Ability to relay requested information quickly and accurately.
  • Able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
