About the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute (ICJI):

The Indiana Criminal Justice Institute (ICJI) is the State planning agency for criminal justice, juvenile justice, traffic safety, and victim services. ICJI is designated as the State Administering Agency for the distribution of federal funds, and as the State Statistical Analysis Center for research.
Further, ICJI is responsible for coordinating and collaborating with local, state, and federal entities to identify, assess, plan, resource, and evaluate new and emerging issues facing the criminal justice and public safety spectrum. ICJI works with local, state, and federal entities to evaluate programs associated with the prevention, detection & solution of crimes; law enforcement, and criminal/juvenile justice, to improve and coordinate all aspects of law enforcement and criminal/juvenile justice

 

Role Overview

The following information showcases what the position entails.Those who are bilingual in Spanish and English are encouraged to apply. 

  • Communicate via telephone, U.S. mail, and e-mail with medical providers, prosecutors, law enforcement, victim service providers and address all questions and concerns in a professional, friendly, and timely manner.
  • Communicate with victims and/or surviving family members of violent crime via telephone, U.S. mail, email, or in person to address all questions and concerns in a professional, friendly, and timely manner.
  • Prepare a claims file for each application that is submitted and enter into the claims database all application information. 
  • Review each claim application for completeness.  
  • Required to review the narratives from confidential police reports and sexual assault examinations to determine eligibility for assistance from the program.
  • Send medical providers notice of decision and, if applicable, payment amount.
  • Scan and upload all bills and other supporting documentation for each claim into the claims database.
  • Process payments when requested by the Victim Compensation director.
  • Complete reports requested by the Victim Compensation director or other executive staff.
  • Attend unit meetings as required.
  • Attend Victim Compensation training as directed by the Victim Compensation director.
  • Assist the Victim Compensation director with other duties as assigned.
     

Salary Statement

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $42,900.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

 

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Research and compile information on specific aspects of the program such as procedures, needs and policies.
  • Answer customer questions about program policies and procedures.
  • Establish, organize, and maintain current and historical files related to the program.
  • Assist in the preparation of program reports, develop applications, prepare budget allocations and/or purchasing of consultative services.
  • Maintain, monitor, and order program assets.
  • Assist supervisor in the development and planning of overall program and its role in the functioning of the agency.
  • Schedule, prepare, and disseminate all program related training materials.

What You'll Need for Success:

You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment:

  • Specialized knowledge of program area including pertinent rules and regulations.
  • Specialized knowledge of applicable legislation, guidelines, agency policy and professional standards and practices.
  • Ability to research, analyze, and compile specific topics related to program area.
  • Ability to communicate effectively. 
  • Ability to operate effectively in a group decision-making process.
  • Tact in dealing with other agency personnel and the public.
  • Specialized knowledge of accounting and budgeting.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
