About the Integrated Public Safety Commission:
The IPSC staff is united in the belief that Project Hoosier SAFE-T will make Indiana a safer place to live and work. Project Hoosier SAFE-T gives first responders a vital tool they need to combat crime and save lives. It gives public safety agencies unprecedented ability to talk to one another. Indeed, the SAFE-T network has already inspired cooperation among all public safety officers at the state, federal and local level. Salary Statement:

This position traditionally starts at $47,476 per year and may be commensurate with education and work experience.

Role Overview:

The Field Service & Outreach Coordinator serves as the liaison between IPSC and local public safety agencies/public safety professionals providing critical information both to and from agencies, delivering training and strengthening partnerships.

About the Job:

The Communications Analyst works with general data communications and telephone systems analysis while considering the technical and business implications of the technology and/or improved processes to the current and future business environment.  This includes being involved with analysis and installation of systems such as PBX, KTS, CAN’s, Cabling, ACD, IVR, Unified Messaging, VoIP, Voice Mail, WAN, video conferencing and Wireless. 

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Coordinates and facilitates timely repairs ensuring the availability of technology related systems and office equipment.
  • Ensures agency employees are equipped with the necessary wireless communications including cellular phones, pagers, PDA’s, etc.
  • Makes recommendations for purchases concerning data communications and telephony systems and equipment and services.
  • Participates in the development of communications and telephony technical standards and policies.
  • Recommends and facilitates quality improvement efforts;
  • Tests, adjusts and troubleshoots equipment.
  • Promotes the utilization of technical services to resolve business issues within the agency.
  • Participates in the development of communications and telephony requirements based on customer needs.
  • Serves as consultant to agency employees on how to use and program communications and telephony equipment.

What You'll Need for Success:

  • Extensive knowledge of voice and data communications analysis and design techniques, IP Telephony products and network.
  • Advanced knowledge of PBX/Key systems, ACD, IVR and other telephone technical problems and solutions.
  • Advanced knowledge of state procurement policies, procedures and standards.
  • Thorough knowledge of structured cabling systems and industry standards including outside cable plant, horizontal and station cabling.
  • Considerable knowledge of pagers, cellular phones and similar wireless devices.
  • Extensive knowledge of all guidelines, policies and procedures related to data and voice services.
  • Working knowledge of electrical circuits.
  • Ability to read, understand and interpret complex manuals and blueprints.
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems or develop creative solutions when necessary.
  • Effectively communicate, both orally and in writing.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role does not provide direct supervision to direct reports.
