About the Indiana State Library:
The Indiana State Library maintains collections in Indiana history and culture, Indiana State and United States government publications, Indiana newspapers, genealogy and family history resources on Indiana and the eastern United States, Braille, large print, and books on tape for the visually impaired, library science, and American history, politics, and economics.  Its collections support research by state agency employees, scholars, genealogists, librarians, students, Indiana residents who are blind or physically challenged, and the general public.


The starting salary for this position is $25,766 per year.

About the Job:

The Indiana Talking Book and Braille Library provides library service by mail to residents of Indiana who cannot use standard printed materials due to a visual, physical, or reading disability. The Clerical Assistant will be proficient in all aspects of the daily circulation activities of the Talking Book and Braille Library in order to assist with various activities as needed. They will also provide assistance around the Indiana State Library when necessary.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this roles are as follows:

  • Have primary responsibility for the equipment sent to and received from patrons; send digital talking book machines (DTBMs) for repair; check in returned equipment and prepare reports. 
  • Assist Library Tech 2 with all aspects of circulation.
  • Transport mail tubs to and from loading dock each day; help to load and unload.
  • Assist with incoming and outgoing interlibrary loan requests.
  • Assist with repurposing cartridges and containers for duplication on demand.
  • Deliver incoming packages throughout the library

What You'll Need for Success:

  • Experience working in a customer service environment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills in order to work with co-workers.
  • Experience maintaining databases and working with an ILS.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role does not provide direct supervision to direct reports.
