The salary for this position traditionally starts at $61,900.00 per year but may be commensurate with education and/or experience up to $95,950.00

About the Job:

The Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission’s (the IURC) mission is to assure that utilities and others use adequate planning and resources for the provision of safe and reliable utility services at reasonable cost.

The Chief Technical Advisor ("CTA") primarily follows ongoing changes in the economics, technology and government policies affecting utility resource portfolios and system operations, including developments occurring at the Regional Transmission Organizations ("RTOs") and at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission ("FERC").  The CTA monitors, understands, and relays pertinent information within the Commission (Chairman, Commissioners, Executive Team, Director of the Research, Policy, and Planning Division (RPP), and the Director of the Energy Division).  The CTA offers technical advice on utility long-term resource planning activities including distribution planning and how these activities are affected by RTO planning processes and operations.  It will be necessary to participate in meetings with a broad range of industry stakeholders ranging from as broad as Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) stakeholder meetings to one-on-one sessions with individual groups. The public nature of the position means the CTA must be comfortable interacting with a range of people representing different organizations with varying levels of expertise.

  • Preparation of written and oral updates to Commissioners, Executive Team, Directors and other Commission staff regarding FERC and RTO issues, especially how these activities impact Indiana utilities and operations
  • Participation in IRP stakeholder and other related meetings both in person and via teleconference
  • Functions may also include (a) assistance to other Divisions, especially in matters that involve federal and RTO policies (e.g., demand response, long term resource planning, wholesale costs that flow through to retail customers), (b) working on state and federal legislation,  and (c) involvement with other state and federal agencies as required (e.g., Department of Energy, Environmental Protection Agency)
  • Work closely with the Research, Policy, and Planning Division Director on Integrated Resource Planning activities
