Salary & Work Location:

This role is typically filled with a starting salary of $25,766.  This position is located in Indianapolis.

About the Job:

As a Customer Representative, you will work in the WorkOne system to assist job seekers in advancing their careers and finding employment by arranging for or providing a wide range of services.  You will help educate job seekers by making them aware of available training and employment resources.  You will also assist the WorkOne business customer by assisting the regional business team with talent strategies.  

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows: 

  • Serve as the eligibility consultant for Wagner-Peyser Programs. Effectively collaborate and coordinate customer service within the community.
  • Utilize data tracking systems ensuring entry of all services provided to job seekers 
  • Collaborate with partner agencies for
    • Purpose of referral and case management
    • Collaboration with post-secondary institutions and other training vendors to raise awareness about training opportunities, certifications, and degree programs
  • Provide assistance to the regional Business Services Team (BST) with regional business, Local Economic Development Organizations and Small Business Development Centers.  
    • Assist with tours and informational overview(s) of the office, business activities, and assets of the system for local, state and federal officials
    • Support the BST by attending meetings, conferences, and seminars as requested
    • Assist  in the implementation of Job/Hiring Fairs or Events for talent recruitment 
  • Assist formal/functional supervisors
    • Perform duties and special projects as assigned by regional and/or DWD leadership
    • Work cooperatively with supervisor, Regional Operator and Service Providers to plan and deliver services
  • Exhibit work performance in soft skills to include: accountability, self-regulation, and building expertise in the WorkOne System
  • Attend all regional and State mandatory trainings relating to programs and policies to meet the performance expectations established by the region and DWD
  • Conduct/Proctor assessment sessions (WorkKeys, TABE, etc.) and workshops according to policies and procedures by following the guidelines established.

What You'll Need for Success:

Education and Experience

  • The ideal candidate in this position will minimally have a High School Diploma or HSE (High School Equivalency) and one (1) year of Customer Service Experience.



  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and exceptional organizational skills
  • Ability to prioritize and resolve complex problems and escalate as necessary
  • Evidence of strong leadership capabilities or previous supervisory experience
  • Ability to manage relationships, motivate and assist job seekers and business customers at various levels 


Technical Proficiency

  • Basic computer skills required
  • Demonstrated Microsoft Programs: Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook preferred
  • Utilize State’s current client services program
  • Internet for research into labor market information, veteran programs, services and social media (Example LinkedIn)

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role does not provide direct supervision to direct reports.
