About the Job:

The individual will serve as the Career & Leadership Development Event (CDE & LDE) Program Manager of the Indiana FFA Association within the Indiana State Department of Agriculture (ISDA).  The employee will assist with the implementation of district and statewide competitive events of the Indiana FFA Association.   This position will assist in serving the 215 chapters and more than 12,500 members of the Indiana FFA Association. 

This position will focus on event planning/logistics, financial budgets, resource development, and training for all FFA CDEs and LDEs. This employee reports to the Indiana FFA Association Director.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:


  • Work as a member of the leadership team, collaborating with the Indiana FFA Association Director to accomplish the goals and objectives of the FFA.
  • Plan initiatives to advance participation in FFA and agricultural education.
  • Recommend implementation strategies for any new programs or activities.  This may require self-study of any new program to determine needs and develop long-range plans.
  • Deliver high-level, educationally-focused Career Development and Leadership Development Events that are business and industry-aligned assuring rigor and relevance.
  • Develop training plans, evaluation strategies, and guidelines for program delivery and procedures.
  • Conduct primary planning and logistics on event content, registration, site details, tabulation, evaluation, and overall execution of all FFA CDEs/LDEs
  • Recruit, select, and manage volunteers, developing plans and processes for orientation and training to effectively execute programs.
  • Manage CDE/LDE development and submission to state and national FFA contests.
  • Develop and deliver resources and training for students and advisors/coaches related to development events.
  • Conduct revision cycle management ensuring all materials, rules, rubrics, and standards are current and aligned with industry and educational needs and align to national contests as needed
  • Maintain crosswalks of all CDEs and LDEs to current agricultural education standards
  • Manage individual, chapter, and statewide participation data and reports for all CDEs and LDEs
  • Manage all national certifications and declarations and manage state level preparations.
  • Coordinate with district and section event coordinators on planning and implementation of state qualifying events. 
  • Serve on 4-H/FFA Judging committee and serve as liaison/primary contact with 4-H on shared development events.
  • Coordinate all awards and recognition programs related to development events.
  • Serve on the convention development and management team for the annual State FFA Convention.  Serving on this team requires management over portions of the four-day convention.
  • Serve as liaison between Indiana FFA and National FFA to inform fellow staff, teachers, and members about initiatives and news from National FFA.
  • Lead initiatives with Chapters, Teachers, Fellow Staff, and State Officers to raise FFA Awareness in the Public and State Government through the development and preparation of promotional materials, budget, participation, and other reports for internal and external customers.
  • Reports to the Indiana FFA Association Director.

What You'll Need for Success:

  • ­Bachelor’s degree in agriculture or education field of study.
  • 3-5 years’ experience with FFA.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in an educational or agricultural field.
  • Experience with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook required.
  • Knowledge of agricultural education, Indiana FFA Association, National FFA Association, as well as working knowledge of secondary education in Indiana and nationally.
  • Knowledge of the role/relationship of career-technical student organizations to career-technical education curriculum.
  • Ability to design competency-based competitive events and experiences that develop leadership skills.
  • Knowledge and understanding of leadership development, particularly as it relates to young adults.
  • Proven ability to work with adolescent students and understand their lifestyles and interests.
  • Ability to communicate effectively (both orally and in writing) with groups of varying age levels and backgrounds, including students, parents, teachers, and administrators.
  • Ability to maintain financial recordkeeping.
  • Ability to organize, work on different projects simultaneously, meeting different expectations and deadlines.
  • Ability to work cooperatively as a team member with other CTSO advisors, ISDA staff, OCTE staff and FFA Center staff.
  • Ability to travel as required by the position.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally, and in writing.
  • Ability to type with speed and accuracy.
  • Ability to organize projects and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge and skill in operating general office equipment.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role may serve as a team lead for an assigned work group.
