About the Indiana Department of Revenue (DOR)


The Indiana Department of Revenue team is comprised of over 700 staff that are located in 13 locations across the state of Indiana. We work collaboratively with the Indiana Governor's office, the General Assembly, state agencies, individuals, business owners, corporations, tax practitioners, and a variety of tax program participants to administer Indiana's tax laws.  DOR administers over 65 tax types and annually processes nearly $21 billion of tax revenue.  Our mission is to serve Indiana by administering tax laws in a fair, secure, and efficient manner.

This position traditionally starts at an annual salary of $61,022.  Salary for this position may be commensurate with education and job experience.

Role Overview


The Business Systems Support Analyst conducts research, gathers data, defines business and functional requirements, and develops User Acceptance Testing expertise and capability across the Department of Revenue.  You will play a key role in the partnership between business and IT staff, ensuring that business needs and plans are successfully integrated with IT project delivery.


Your leadership, expertise, and work products will establish and operate processes that ensure issues are identified, tracked, diagnosed, and resolved.  You will also develop and grow a robust and functional user testing and acceptance capacity designed to increase business ownership, build understanding and knowledge of system enhancements and releases, and ensure alignment of business goals and IT initiatives.

A Day in the Life


The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Assists in the development of technical standards and policies to meet the customers, peers, and organization.
  • Recommends and facilitates quality improvement efforts.
  • May train, guide, and advise lower-level Business Systems Consultants.
  • Formulates and defines system scopes and objectives through research and fact-finding combined with a basic understanding of user needs, business systems, and industry requirements.
  • Creates process change through the integration of new processes with existing ones and communication of changes to impacted Business Systems teams;
  • Establishes and maintains strategic partnerships with assigned customers to help them meet their business and technical needs.
  • Participates in the development of strategic plans based on customer needs.
  • Analyzes business and user needs, documents requirements, and devises new technical business system solutions, or revises existing system logic difficulties as necessary.
  • Develops or modifies moderately complex information or telecommunication systems processes; Facilitates the delivery of technical business solutions and products to customers.
  • Manages the expectations of customers, peers, vendors, and management; Establishes contracts for the procurement of technical business solutions.

What You'll Need for Success


Preferred credentials:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business or a related discipline.  A demonstrated 2 years of professional experience as a Business Analyst or Quality Assurance and Testing  Analyst may substitute for the degree requirement.
  • Demonstrated capacity to analyze, understand, and capture business processes.
  • Ability to interact with IT staff at a higher, cross-functional, and detailed level.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Ability to accurately and concisely present proposals and solutions to a wide audience.
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office 365, especially Word, Excel, Visio, Project, and PowerPoint, 


Required credentials:

  • Advanced knowledge of organizational business systems and industry requirements.
  • Advanced knowledge of technical problems and solutions relevant to current and future business environments.
  • Considerable knowledge of project management theories and practices and the ability to apply that knowledge.
  • Ability to lead, encourage, and influence others to perform.
  • Effective communication skills in speaking and writing.
  • Ability to manage diverse human resources.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports

This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
