Role Overview:

The Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC) is the State of Indiana's lead economic development agency. The Indiana Economic Development Corporation is committed to attracting and supporting new business investment, creating new jobs for Hoosiers, and furthering our legacy as one of the top states in the nation for business. 

  

The IEDC is offering an exciting and challenging opportunity to work for the state and to learn through hands-on experience as well as through planned engagements with the Governor of Indiana, Secretary of Commerce and leadership at the IEDC. The program will be 12 weeks long (May 12 through August 1) and 65% of the program will be day to day work dictated by the Intern Coordinator, 25% will be dedicated to the special project which will be presented by the Intern team at the end of the program, and 10% will be other engagements which include lunch & learns, meetings, tours and study reports. 

 

Salary Statement

The salary for this position is $18/hour for a 40-hour work week.

 

A Day in the Life:

Operations 

  • Create operational guidelines, templates, and clean up the standard operating procedure information 
  • Attend meetings with upper management or higher with or without a project manager present. 
  • Participate in an attraction project and an expansion project from beginning until either the end of the project or the term of the internship 
  • Scheduled, weekly, ½ hour touchpoints with the manager 
  • Mid-way through the internship a touch point will occur with your manager. 

 

Attractions 

  • Assist project managers with Requests for Information (RFI) Request for Information 
  • Update and populate RFI worksheet 
  • Assist with Lead Generation efforts. 

 

Expansions 

  • Identify businesses to proactively speak with about government assistance programs 
  • Support analysis of business activity and develop sector specific market intelligence presentation materials  
  • Manage databases with economic and business finance information to support data driven decision making  
  • Conduct online research of business news and trends that inform marketing and sales pursuit priorities 
  • Attend BR&E Team days in two or more counties throughout the term of the internship on a shadowing basis

 

Special Project 

  • Every Hoosier Economic Intern will work closely with an IEDC team member to further the mission of the IEDC. The Hoosier Economic Intern team will brainstorm together to envision a joint project to better the State of Indiana and collaborate throughout the summer to detail a plan to make the vision a reality. The Intern team will present the final project at the end of the program 

What You'll Need for Success:

  • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, Political Science, Public Administration, or equivalent 
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills 
  • Self-motivated with the ability to multitask 
  • Strong sense of time management with the ability to meet deadlines and juggle multiple projects with varying levels of importance 
  • Ability to build partnerships and work collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives 

 

Benefits of Employment with the State of Indiana:

This seasonal position does not offer benefits and is limited to 180 working days in an eleven (11) month continuous period
