Role Overview:
Incumbent serves as the Breed Development Residency Inspector for the Indiana Horse Racing Commission (IHRC). Incumbent is responsible for ensuring compliance of the residency component of the Quarter Horse, Standardbred and Thoroughbred Breed Development Programs within the Indiana Horse Racing Commission. This position involves a high degree of discretion in interpretation, application and execution of the Indiana Horse Racing Commission's rules and regulations.
• Verify the identification of mares, foals and stallions registered in the Quarter Horse, Standardbred and Thoroughbred Breed Development Programs;
• Investigates the accuracy of participant records concerning the identity of stallions, mares and foals and of breeding and foaling locations;
• Verify records by examining thoroughbreds, standardbreds and quarter horses at foaling location for sex, color and distinguishing markings: report discrepancies to the Breed Development Residency Coordinator;
• Provide information and assistance to program participants for compliance with the IHRC's rules and regulations necessary to participate in the State Breed Development Programs;
• Provide follow-up for new program participants and assist them in the proper registration process;
• Assess individual horses based on the Henneke Body Condition Scoring System and provide follow-up reporting if necessary;
• Maintain and provide inspection reports in accordance with the IHRC's policies;
• Other duties as assigned.
Salary Statement:
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $42,900.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.
A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this role are as follows:
- Research and compile information on specific aspects of the program such as procedures, needs and policies.
- Answer customer questions about program policies and procedures.
- Establish, organize, and maintain current and historical files related to the program.
- Assist in the preparation of program reports, develop applications, prepare budget allocations and/or purchasing of consultative services.
- Maintain, monitor, and order program assets.
- Assist supervisor in the development and planning of overall program and its role in the functioning of the agency.
- Schedule, prepare, and disseminate all program related training materials.
