About NeuroDiagnostic Institute

NeuroDiagnostic Institute and Advanced Treatment Center located on the campus of Community East Hospital in Indianapolis, and operated in partnership with Community Health Network, delivers advanced evaluation and treatment for patients with the most challenging and complex neuropsychiatric illnesses and moves them more efficiently into the most appropriate treatment settings within the community or state mental health system. The NDI is a key component the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration’s initiative to modernize and reengineer Indiana’s network of state-operated mental health facilities.

 

Salary

This position's salary will be commensurate base on education and/or experience.

About the job:

The Psychiatric Attendant Supervisor supervises and coordinates patient/resident treatment service wards within a state institution.  Specific duties involve placing subordinates on ward assignments and checking on patients to see that medication, treatments and good patient care/developmental training is provided. This is a weekend option position. Schedule TBD by supervisor. Starting salary for this position is $31,382.00

 

A day in the life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows: 

  • Trains and supervises Psychiatric Attendants in providing proper patient care and implementing resident programs;
  • Explains institution policies and procedures to subordinates;
  • Plans daily work schedule for each subordinate psychiatric attendant and prepares monthly work schedules;
  • Organizes and assigns subordinates to areas where they are best qualified to care for and train patients and accomplish assigned goals and objectives;
  • Assures adherence to institutional standards and makes recommendations for staff changes;
  • Arranges for Psychiatric Attendants to accompany residents to clinics such as, X-Ray, Dental Laboratory, etc.;
  • Reviews, evaluates, counsels and disciplines subordinates;
  • Recommends hiring, promotion and demotion of subordinates;

What we are looking for:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • CNA, Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree a plus
  • At least 2 years of experience working directly with psychiatric, geriatric, developmentally disabled or behaviorally challenged adults or youth
  • Good written and verbal communication skills including proficiency in computer programs (Office, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to think critically and prioritize tasks
  • Flexibility in work schedule to accommodate class needs
  • Certification in or willingness to become a certified Bridge Building instructor
  • Certification in or willingness to become a certified CPR instructor
  • Practical knowledge of routine nursing care procedures such as bathing, bowel and bladder care, feeding, CPR, and first aid techniques.
  • Ability to keep records, reports, and charts of patients accurately.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good interpersonal relationships with others, maintaining professionalism at all times
  • Ability to follow verbal and written directions
  • Ability to act in emergency situations which requires the physical management and protection of patients

What you need for success:

  • Specialized knowledge of psychiatric nursing care practices or developmental training techniques and ability to apply them to patient/resident care;
  • Practical knowledge of/and ability to use and instruct subordinates in proper use of medical equipment;
  • Practical knowledge of federal, state and institutional regulations involving patient/resident care;
  • Practical knowledge of/and ability to supervise according to State Personnel Division and institution procedures;
  • Ability to make decisions in adverse or emergency situations;
  • Ability to speak and deal effectively with people and to train, evaluate and counsel the Psychiatric Attendant staff;
  • Ability to plan and maintain effective patient care and resident programs;
  • Ability to keep personnel records and documentation on patient care;
  • Ability to control difficult residents and situations and to use gentle self-defense techniques;
  • Ability to determine and assign subordinates to areas in which they can perform most successfully.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role provides direct supervision for one or more staff members.
