About the Job:

The Background Verification Supervisor provides day-to-day supervision of assigned staff, and facilitates the development, implementation, monitoring, training and coordination of the Background Verification Unit. In this role, you will provide guidance and consultation to agency HR Directors, divisions and local or regional HR staff pertaining to the centralized verification process and procedures.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows: 

  • Provides day-to-day supervision, consultation and guidance to Background Verification employees regarding identified human resources processes/issues;
  • Makes decisions that are outside of procedures regarding applicants being verified;
  • Ensures all hires are processed as required through SuccessFactors in the Background Verification division in a timely manner and up to quality standards;
  • Performs quality control spot checks on verification employees by reviewing a sampling of applicants for system notes, date/time stamps, phone calls, emails and attached documentation;
  • Serve as a liaison between assigned INSPD HR staff embedded in state agencies and Background Verification Unit team for the purpose of coordinating verification functions and facilitating communication and problem solving as necessary;
  • Assists centralized agencies with the hiring process, including completing employment and education verifications and background checks;
  • Provides assistance as needed or requested in all areas of HR including special projects, such as assistance with file maintenance per the personnel file retention guidelines;
  • Researches data to identify training needs and directs the development of curriculum, coordinates and/or conducts training on identified process;
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

What You'll Need for Success:

You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment: 

  • Extensive knowledge of the laws, rules, regulations, business processes and policies as defined by the Indiana State Personnel Department;
  • Ability to use PeopleSoft and SuccessFactors at an intermediate to an advance level;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Ability to research and document findings;
  • Ability to form recommendations and make approriate decisions with consideration of potential impact on agency/division statewide;
  • Ability to effectively prioritize a variety of functions;
  • Ability to successfully negotiate resolutions to complex problems or situations;
  • Ability to work independently;
  • Ability to develop, implement, coordinate and present training programs;
  • Ability to organize thoughts and ideas in a logical manner;
  • Ability to plan and organize the work of direct reports;
  • Broad knowledge of agency programs, structure and staffing.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role provides direct supervision for one or more staff members.
