About the Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites

This position traditionally starts at $17.00 per hour. 

About the Job:

This position allows the Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites (ISMHS) to acquire and manage scientifically collected archaeological material from throughout Indiana for the purpose of research and potential exhibition.

A Day in the Life:

This position will work with outside contract companies and state/federal agencies to ensure for compliance with ISMHS curation standard and work through the curation process with those companies from initial steps to invoicing.  This position will be responsible for cataloging newly acquired material, in-depth review of selected current holdings for culling, inventorying current holdings, working with interns, providing access to researchers, and working to address issues of care and conservation.  Other duties may be as assigned.

What We're Looking For:
  • Bachelor's degree in Anthropology or related field with at least 2 years’ of experience working in an archaeological laboratory cataloging collections
  • Midwestern Archaeology focus preferred but not required
What You'll Need For Success:

 

Must have strong computer skills in database management and digital imaging

Strong knowledge of currently accepted best practice standards of care for archaeological collections

Must have good communication skills to work with varied archaeological companies

Must have strong writing skills     

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:
This role does not provide direct supervision to direct reports.
