Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM):
Our mission is to implement federal and state regulations to protect human health and the environment while allowing the environmentally sound operations of industrial, agricultural, commercial, and governmental activities vital to a prosperous economy. We issue air, water, and solid and hazardous waste permits that restrict discharges to environmentally safe levels. Staff members inspect and monitor regulated entities; provide compliance and technical assistance; monitor and assess air, land, and water quality; use enforcement actions as necessary to ensure compliance; and respond to incidents involving spills to soil or waters of the state.

 

Salary:

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $31,668.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

 

Role Overview

Administrative Assistant 5 will review asbestos licensee applications for completeness and accuracy. Ensure that applications are logged into the Professional Licensing Agency data systems. Quality assures all data entered is accurately prepared, technically correct, and properly maintained. AA5 reviews and audits online renewal licenses for verification of current training.  Administer the asbestos exams as needed.

 

Prepare asbestos files for the day forward Virtual File Cabinet (VFC).  Ensure materials are scanned into VFC accurately and timely. File information requests are completed within 24-48 hours.  Assist administrative assistants and receptionists with telephone coverage and asbestos mail.  Prepare and file current training rosters in hard copy and electronically.

About the Job:

As the Administrative Assistant, you will be responsible for working within an office environment to support your agency with the required tasks to complete the position’s responsibilities.  Administrative Assistant 5 will review asbestos license applications for completeness and accuracy.  Ensure that application information is entered into the Professional Licensing Agency data systems. Quality assures all data entered is accurately prepared, technically correct and properly maintained.  Review and audit on-line renewal licenses for verification of current training.  Administer the asbestos exams as needed.  Prepare and file training course roster submissions electronically.

Prepare asbestos files for day forward Virtual File Cabinet (VFC).  Ensure materials are scanned into VFC accurately and timely.  Information requests are completed within 24-48 hours.  Assist other administrative staff and Office of Air Quality receptionist with main desk duties and asbestos mail distribution. 

In this position, you will work closely with the Senior Environmental Manager responsible for Asbestos licensing activities and gain additional skills to further your career growth.
