Salary Information:

This role traditionally starts at a base salary of $25,766.

About the Job:

The DNR Division of Accounting assists the DNR personnel, properties, divisions, and bureaus with the collection of revenue and payment of goods and services necessary to support the agency's mission and core values. DNR Accounting performs work that is fiscally responsible and compliant with state accounting laws, rules, and policies as required by Indiana Code and by oversight agencies such as the Auditor of State, State Board of Accounts, and the Treasurer of State. The division processes vendor payments, employee travel expense reimbursements, and revenue collection and deposits in a timely and cost-effective manner through the use of efficient accounting business practices. DNR Accounting endeavors to support State of Indiana vendors and bolster private-public partnerships for the benefit of all parties by providing excellent customer service and assistance during the payment process.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows: 

  • Review purchase order, claim voucher and utility voucher payment requests for completeness. 
  • Enter data from invoices and payment requests to create a payment voucher in the PeopleSoft financial system. 
  • Monitor vouchers daily for valid budget check and communicate budget issues to DNR Finance team. Work with Accounting staff to correct errors.
  • Provide backup  processing of DNR Travel requests. Work with the current DNR Travel Coordiantor to ensure travel requests are submitted to IDOA correctly and promptly.
  • Provide backup assistance on monitoring the DNRPayments email box. Review documents and return any with errors for correction. Send the approved documents to AP Workflow for processing.
  • Act as liaison between DNR and external and internal customers, providing information regarding payments when requested.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal and/or state laws, regulations and/or agency rules, standards and guidelines.
  • Review work for quality, accuracy and completeness.
  • Reconcile document discrepancies; make adjustments as needed.

What You'll Need for Success:

  • Basic understanding of computer systems.
  • Knowledge of the PeopleSoft financial system and other software applications, such as Microsoft Excel, Outlook and Word, preferred.
  • Ability to work and plan efficiently.
  • Ability to analyze or identify underlying principles, reasons or facts associated with information or data to draw conclusions.
  • Ability to use or learn to use automated accounting and/or financial computer systems.
  • Ability to evaluate information against a set of standards.
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships with all levels of DNR employees and representatives from other state agencies.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; listen to and understand information and ideas.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role may serve as a team lead for an assigned work group.
