About the Department of Child Services:

DCS protects children who are victims of abuse or neglect and strengthens families through services that focus on family support and preservation. The Department also administers child support, child protection, adoption and foster care throughout the state of Indiana.

About the Job:

The Accountant Associate is responsible for general accounting, bookkeeping, billing, referral validation, data entry and submission of county payment claims for the all Local DCS offices for invoices for foster care, residential and preservation services. 

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows: 

  • Review invoice for accuracy and timeliness
  • Input invoice into Kid Traks
  • Verify Childs Service Eligibility
  • Verify Medicaid Eligibility
  • Verify DCS authorized expense
  • Verify Placement dates are correct
  • Enter Negative Referrals
  • Review and issue payment of requisitions
  • Submit invoices for payment
  • Performs related duties as required

What You Need for Success:
  • Working knowledge of DCS Fiscal Policy and Procedures
  • Working knowledge of DCS Service Standards
  • Working knowledge of DCS LCPA and Residential Master contracts
  • Ability to apply these Standards and Policies when reviewing and processing invoices.
  • Ability to understand and utilize DCS Kid Traks System
  • Ability to understand ICWIS and ICES computer programs
  • General knowledge and background on Medicaid and Medicaid services
  • Ability to develop effective work relationships
  • Ability to evaluate and recommend modifications to existing claim process and validations
  • General understanding of basic accounting principals and practices
