About the Job:

As an AASHTOWare programmer, you will be responsible for the development of new applications and support/maintenance of the existing applications under the AASHTOWare suite of software.  You will perform  business requirements gathering, systems development, testing of systems, user training, development of training documentation, systems and program documentation, and post-implementation systems maintenance and support.
 

A Day in the Life:

  • Fully understand, implement, maintain and utilize application development concepts, processes and principles as outlined in the Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) in AASHTOWare software.
  • Assist with the systems planning, analyzing, designing, developing, implementing and supporting activities.
  • Assist with establishing major milestones and objectives for new application development projects.
  • Attend functional and technical meetings with various INDOT staff and external customers to discuss and analyze business rules, application requirements, database design, hardware requirements, and unit and system testing protocols.
  • Develop technical and training documentation.
  • Conduct end user training.
  • Provide assistance in problem resolution of technical issues during and after application development and implementation.
  • Provide project/system status reports to AASHTOWare Manager and MIS management.
  • Maintain knowledge of current application development and Computer Aided Software Engineering (CASE) tools, and project management techniques.
  • Research and evaluate commercial software solutions.
  • Assist with the development of Requests for Proposals (RFP) and Requests for Information (RFI.)
  • Provide input and assist the AASHTOWare Manager and MIS management in the planning of fiscal budgets and IT strategic plans for the section and division.
  • Support and coordinate application user groups.
  • Assume other responsibilities as designated by MIS management

What You'll Need for Success:

  •  Knowledge of AASHTOWare Project suite of software required.
  •  Knowledge of AASHTOWare Trns.Port suite of software desired.
  • Knowledge of Oracle databases or enterprise relational databases desired.
  • Extensive knowledge of systems design and development techniques required.
  • Ability to analyze business processes and relate them to computer capabilities required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing required.
  • Ability to multi-task and work on multiple projects at the same time required.
  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent in Computer Science or related field required.
  • Three years of experience in computer systems design and development required.
  • Knowledge of project management and control desired.
     

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role may serve as a team lead for an assigned work group.
