About Governor's Summer Internship Program: 

The Governor’s Public Service Summer Internship (GPSSI) is designed to give college students real world, hands on experience in their desired field of study to enhance marketability upon graduation. Participation in the Governor’s Public Service Summer Internship will offer students a multitude of experiences including networking with state employees, resume building and soft skills workshops, agency head panels, and much more.


Hiring Salary:

The Indiana Department of Transportation's (INDOT) summer internship program is a paid summer internship that lasts approximately 3.5 months. Listed salary is approximate. The hourly wage is $11.30.

About the Job:

As a Construction Engineer Intern, some of the duties you will learn are:

  • Perform onsite construction inspection and materials sampling & testing. Inspection includes the operation of a variety of engineering & testing equipment (i.e. survey equipment, nuclear density gauges, concrete air and slump test equipment, sand cone compaction testers, etc.).
  • Interpret, recommend revisions, and ensure adherence to construction plans, contract documents, and specifications.
  • Communicate observed deficiencies to appropriate individuals and monitor steps taken as corrective actions.
  • Make math computations, prepare sketches and complete a variety of daily and periodic reports as required.
What We’re Looking For:
  • Must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate with an accredited post-secondary institution and have completed at least one (1) year of undergraduate education.
  • Enrolled in an ABET accredited university's Civil Engineering or related program. 
  • Considerable knowledge in use of computer, CADD & drafting equipment;
  • Basic Knowledge of civil engineering technology;
  • Ability to understand civil engineering technology; use statistical analysis; comprehend & interpret plans & specifications to design standard plans; cooperate with co-workers on group projects; handle routine & sensitive contacts with public, government officials & property owners concerning assigned projects.
  • Detail Oriented;
