This position is responsible for the coordination and delivery of heavy equipment into district operations. This position will be responsible for maintaining a schedule of agency heavy equipment assets and the procurement of rental equipment to be scheduled to meet operational need of district operational work plans.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

• Required to complete work assignments as directed and report problems to District Fleet Manager.
• Ensures work conforms with appropriate INDOT standards and specifications, procedures and policies;
• Assist Subdistrict Operations Managers, Unit Foremen and Crew Leaders as needed to ensure a safe working environment exists for both themselves and their crew;
• Anticipate heavy equipment needs of operations and be able to make recommendation/needs based decisions on specification, duration, sourcing, and alternative solutions;
• The Heavy Equipment Logistics Supervisor will coordinate the scheduling of a wide variety of construction equipment including, but not limited to: Gradall, mechanical sweeper, vactor, lowboy tractor-trailer, trackhoe crane with 1,200 pound hammer, diesel backhoe, front loader, rollers, tractor, loader, forklift, dump truck, pickup truck and bulldozer;
• Receive, investigate, and reply to complaints related to all District assets and coordinate with supervisor and unit personnel to ensure follow up action is taken;
• Oversees the scheduling and deployment of both basic highway maintenance equipment and specialized heavy equipment.
• Responsible for all aspects of rental equipment use for the District, including but not limited to: tracking needs for, submitting bids to Procurement Agent, scheduling, pickup, and returns;
• Winter operations duties include participating in snow and ice removal;
• Participates in emergency response activities.
• Performs equipment maintenance such as: minor repairs, preventative maintenance, refueling, and pre-trip inspections;
• Performs miscellaneous labor tasks;
• Performs job documentation tasks such as entry into the Work Management System (WMS);
• Performs related job duties as assigned.
• Supervise the Logistics Heavy Equipment Delivery personnel.

• High school graduate or equivalent;
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and must have valid class “A” commercial driver’s license (CDL) with tanker endorsement or must obtain within initial 90 days of employment as a condition of employment.
• Six months training or 6 months experience in operation of heavy construction equipment (e.g., 10-ton crawler, large cranes, 10-ton backhoe, 18-ton dozer, over 44,000 pound truck mounted excavator) and related safety practices
• Skill in operation of heavy motorized and construction equipment (e.g., crane, large backhoe and dozer, heavy crawler, excavator, tractor trailer); maintenance and repair of equipment; operation of light and heavy equipment (e.g., dump truck, grader, forklift, tractor-trailer, chain saw);
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds, be able to perform physical activities such as lifting, dragging, stooping, standing and walking for long periods of time, and be able to endure exposure to inclement weather;
• Must have ability to read, write, and communicate clearly, be able to carry out oral and written instructions and to complete records and reports, and follow directions;
• Must have schedule development and asset scheduling experience.
• Knowledge of safety practices associated with operation of heavy motorized equipment;
• Supervisory experience of multiple employees, minimum of 1 year;
• Required to submit to and pass a drug test as a condition of employment;
• Ability to follow directions and work as part of a team.
• Knowledge of highway principles, practices, methods and techniques relative to all maintenance activities.
• Ability to apply highway principles and procedures as needed;
• Must have ability to perform basic calculations.
• Must be able to develop working relationships with equipment rental vendors to build a procurement network of equipment sources.
• Must be able to supervise a work crew in various situations and have the ability to explain and communicate desired results.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:
This role provides direct supervision for one or more staff members.

If this is an Intermittent position, the position does not offer benefits and is limited to 180 working days in an eleven (11) month continuous period.
