Summary/Objective:

Incumbent is responsible for managing staff and participating in preventive maintenance and /or maintenance repair work at the Indiana Department of Transportation. Supervises a crew of skilled maintenace workers following general instructions and standard practices of the trade. Incumbent reports to Maintenance Supervisor 3.
 

Essential Job Responsibilities:

The essential functions of this roles are as follows:-Provides supervision , prioritization, instruction and training for safe and efficient completion of work by assigned staff.
-Oversees the work of outside contractors ;making sure assigned work is completed appropriately and as scheduled, as well as in a safe and efficient manner;
-Provides supervision/management (e.g.,recommendations for hiring/disciplinary action,staffing,coaching, performance management,and instructs /trains assigned staff or othersas directed by facility management.
-Ensures that all maintenance staff are properly trained in safety regulations,procedures and precautions and wear protective equipment as appropriate (safety googles, hard hats, gloves, hearing protection);
-Indentifies, make recommendations to the proper parties, and takes appropriate action to ensure timely correction of maintenance issues/problems at INDOT.
-Oversees operation and maintenance of the facilities and/or buildings to minimize the interruption of service to the various operations.
-Assists with implementation/improvement of Maintenance programs, procedures, and project planning;
-Assists in ensuring that the facilities and grounds are in a constant state of survey readinessfrom amaintenance perspective;
-Initiates repair parts order request;recommends items for inventory stock;and monitors use;
-Provides service and repairs to various facilities motors, panels,transformers,lighting systems,brine makers, lift stations,concrete patching/repairing,propane dispensors,etc;
-Performs support work with/for other Crafts/Trades, escorting,ect.;
-Performs snow and ice removal;
-Performs other duties as assigned;
-Installs all commercial doors and hardware;

Requirements:


-Thorough knowledge of facility maintenance and access systems, as well as their capabilities and proper use;
-Thorough knowledge of OSHA, as well as ocupational hazards, safety precautions, and regulations;
-Working knowledge of methods, practices, tools,materials, and equipment used in all maintenance trades;
-Good oral and written communication skills;
-Ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships with local, community,and governmental entities, as well mas other staff;
-Ability to effectively apply problem solving techniques in response to various situations; some of which may involve the public;
-Ability to understand blue prints, electrical prints/ schematics and use a variety of tools and measuring devices common to the trade;
-Ability to lay out, assign, schedule and supervise the work of skilled maintenance workers;
-Ability to maintain a valid drivers license;
-Ability to acquire & maintain a valid CDL "B" license with air brake restriction;
-Ability to lift up to one hundred (100) pounds;

If this is an Intermittent position, the position does not offer benefits and is limited to 180 working days in an eleven (11) month continuous period.
